Richard Barbieri--the guy on the keyboards--is one of the best parts of this band. His soundscapes are incredible and are both pronounced and subtle at the same time.
Richard is a keyboard genius. When Colin Edwing's bass comes in, it's like a blanket of amplified energy envelops you and embraces you throughout your body. It's just wonderful.
Gavin polyrhythms - damn!!! During the guitar solo he plays 2/4 on the bell and 3 on the snare. And to top it off he throws in multiple flams to f^*k your mind even more 🥰🥰🥰
Everyone's great. Gotta give a special shout-out to Richard Barbieri behind the keyboard/synthesizers though. Dude is the bread and butter of this band. I've been recommending 'Deadwing', but now I'm like... There's so many others: 'Trains' live in Chicago, 'So Called Friend' from same show, (Gavin does some illegal sh!t here) and 'Time Flies' from Octane Twisted. The amount of avenues you can travel with this band is crazy. P.S. Karnivool - Deadman awaits 😁🤘
No kidding, his parts are so textural and innovative - such a key part of PT. And he's dismissive of his own keyboard skills, too. Okay, maybe he's not Keith Emerson, but he's tremendous nonetheless, I love his stuff.
I couldn't click on a video fast enough... I remember commenting that you guys check out this song on another PT video a few months ago. This track has to be nearly all of PT's elements mashed into one, like a shorter version of Anesthetize. Great reaction as always, I can tell how much Gavin hypes you guys up! GAME OVER!! Edit: PT Round 7: "Open Car" from Arriving Somewhere Live in Chicago
Take a ride with “My Ashes”. John Weseleys voice will astound you Then add Drown With Me too the mix. These guys never disappoint. You could take their worst song and match it up to anyone out there. Thx guys appreciate your emotion and reaction.
I’d like to see one of these next The start of something beautiful Dark Matter (live) Buying new soul Sleep of no dreaming (live) They’re all incredible songs and you guys won’t regret any of them
Glad you guys got back to some PT. I would highly recommend 'Russia on Ice' studio version next. It's 90's Porcupine tree , when their sound was a lot more spacey ,psychedelic rock and very floydy. But Russia on Ice is a killer track. One of their many great epics.
The recorded version of this song is like next level! Gavin went ham on the recorded version. Probably one of the top five songs of Porcupine Tree of all time.
The polyrhythms in that song are insane. 2/4 on the bell, 5 on the snare and just to screw with you double-base on the 15s. Gavin is the only drummer I know that uses all three hemispheres of his brain 🥰🥰🥰
Gavin's beat in this song is literally a course in odd time subdivision with a root even. He uses it to keep a sense of uncertainty and then unleashed the huge breakdown bit.
After working with Opeth Steven Wilson wanted to take Porcupine Tree in a harder rock direction with the next album, which was to become 'In Absentia' and which was the first one with big label support. A week or two before the recrosrding session in New York he felt tvr drummer wouldn't work and fired him with no plan B. He thought he had just ruined his big break but the keyboard player suggested he call a fellow he'd played some session a with to see if he was available. So Wilson brought him in as a last resort and it was Gavin Harrison. The guy they brought in as a last resort was Gavin F'ing Harrison! Imagine that!
@@dmusiclife5727 Yeah, that would be a great reaction 12 years later they release a new song and it's AMAZING. The one and only Gavin "the beast" Harrison nail it again. I can't wait
@@dmusiclife5727 Ah, I just saw your reaction video was blocked. Shame as I was looking forward to seeing it. It's definitely the music video that triggers the block, not the song. Others have prevented the block by covering over the music video with the music video thumbnail or some other graphics.
Did you move into Stevens solo work yet? There was life after Porcupine tree - Maybe Luminol? also check out some of the more chilled PT tracks like Lazarus or Heart attack in a lay-by, so beautiful, or my favourite slow builder, ‘Yellow Hedgerow dreamscape’.
one never knows where he is going to hit next... Pinnacle of music these guys along with Tool and Pink Floyd (more on the emotional side). Found Porcupine Tree a year ago from some reaction channel, i'm so glad i did, psychedelic is still alive
They dropped a new single called Harridan They're back together after 12 years and they sound amaaazing and Gavin is killing it as usual, tho Collin their bassist isn't with them anymore, Steven played the basslines, and Richard is still there
You still have a ways to go with PT there are just so many great songs (‘Trains’, ‘Start of Something Beautiful’, ‘Fear of a blank planet’, ‘Time Flies’ but maybe you might like to branch out into Stevens solo work as well. Different band behind him but still brilliant .Try the songs ‘Luminol’, ‘Detonation’, ‘Refuge’ , ‘Pariah’ for starters………….. I love your reactions because you are clearly so tuned into his compositions……..keep it going!
I absolutely love you guys! And will keep recommending songs until you get to them. Hopefully your Porcupine Tree playlist will be as long as Jinjer :)) - What Happens Now? (Live at Tilburg) - Fear of a Blank Planet (Live at Tilburg) Please do those in any order, you won’t be disappointed.
I love all of your reactions to PT! I know you love Gavin's drums but soon you'll start to notice how him and Colin Edwin set up a fantastic rhythm section on those latter albums. Beautiful stuff! Some of the tightest live playing I've had the chance to experience. Masterful! Keep digging in. From PT you may stray into a little The Pineapple Thief if you haven't done so already. Gavin plays with them in the latter three albums. You truly have some great reactions and I hope to check out more. PT or Steven's Solo stuff will always be instant click with me. Don't leave out The Aristocrats! Just throw a dart at the Boing, We'll Do It Live DVD and play what it hits and I guarantee you'll be AMAZED! But thank you! Hope to check you out again soon and I have subscribed! :)
Great reaction again folks! so happy to see you doing another PT song, they never let ye down… think a few folk have mentioned already but you should check out Steven Wilson “Home invasion/ regret #9” live from royal Albert hall.. it’s amazing!! You guys will love it 😁
'What happens now' live in tilburg (check out 3 different time signatures in middle section , or a song called 'Futile' at drum show. 'Strip The Soul-Dot 3' live in tilburg , Gavin Harrison with The Pineapple thief 'White Mist' drum through , Or 'Bonnie the Cat' Drum Show. Enjoy , take Care
Porcupine Tree: Home Invasion/Regret #9, Drive Home, Luminol are all AMAZING Must Listens. Studio Versions. Also, The Raven hat Refused To Sing (LIVE) Is Astounding. all these 4 Songs are Songs you HAVE to get to eventually. Classics.
What a band, followed them a long time now ,only tool are up there with these guys for me,Gavin is THE BEST drummer I've heard and Danny is also up there with him, some of PTs songs are pure brilliance and the playing by everyone concerned is unworldly, fantastic but what a drum sound, hats off to Sonor drums.Great reactions guys keep em coming.
I think y'all need to start dabbling in The Mars Volta a bit. I think you'll throughly enjoy their tunes! But also keep up this Porcupine Tree and NIN kick y'all been on too!
First of all - Porcupine Tree and just about anything Steven Wilson touches is golden. One of the best artists of all time! Easily! Second, you should listen to a band called ATOMSHIP. They had one album only and then fell apart unfortunately but seriously some of the coolest songs and one of the BEST DRUMMERS I’ve ever heard. Maybe try the song MOTHRA first as a good introduction.
Ok. Drown with Me. Deform To Form A Star live. What Happens now. Do you want me to go on? Ok last one, Steven Wilson live Luminol. Thx guys great reaction vids. Keep em coming.
This is the most amazing band in recent years, I have been following them for years, try Darkest Eyes next or for a complete change try Lazarus, thankfully they are reforming it will be interesting to see what their break has done for them.
I'm the guy who offered to double your $1.33 lifetime revenue from RU-vid if you reacted to this song. Where do I send your $2.66 check? I watched your reaction to the last several bars of this song about a dozen times. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you trying to figure out exactly what Gavin was doing. I bet I've watched that a hundred times and read ten completely different takes from drummers. I still have no idea what he was doing there. I just know it was beautiful and nasty all at the same time.
If you want to hear a great drum cover of this song, check out Maxime Cholley . Dude is a monster, he also covers some Tigran Hamasyan songs. Not to take anything away from Gavin, my favorite drummer.
I feel like I'm just being a good friend in telling you that Animals As Leaders just dropped a previously completely unannounced single this morning at 1 am. "MONOMYTH" I know you can't react, just enjoy!👍
