Great performance! I'm sorry for the poor quality of video but I definitely think is a jewel because is about Porcupine Tree. Enjoy it!
PS: Listen carefully the lyrics =D

Colin Edwin : Bass guitar
Richard Barbieri: Synthesizers and keyboards.
Chris Maitland: Drums and backing vocals.

Plus I think the last thing Steven Wilson would want was to be considered as a mainstream artist, imo even though he’s successful in what he does I still consider him more of an underground musician who’s loved by other musicians and prog rock fans.

The lineup for 2001 also included After Crying, a great band from Hungary, and Banco del Mutuo Succorso from Italy. Banco's performance blew me away. Attended all the NEARfests except the first one. Occasionally, there is a song that comes along and makes me fall in love with Music all over again. "Last Chance..." is one of those songs. Most of the Lightbulb Sun album sounds like the music I was into back in 2000, something Steve Lamacq might have played on BBC Radio 1's Evening Session, and I can't believe it passed me by so quietly. To me personally, the change in tone is what gets me. The music is absolutely transcendent, and for a reason. I believe it reflects the belief of the cult followers that they would transcend to the next level of glory. It's hopeful, mysterious and very very sad all at once. The abrupt ending is poignant too. As a person who suffers from passive suicidal ideation, I FEEL this song, and I can't stop listening to it.

@@jannowak3604 Something feels off though - it sounds REALLY close to the album version. Was it somehow re-mixed, or was there a backing track? I also feel like his hand movements aren't syncing well with the acoustic strumming.
@amandastevenson6101
@amandastevenson6101 3 года назад
@@highvoltage6113 I wouldn't be surprised if there was a backing track, it's a very complex melody with many layers. Besides, how else would they play that sample of Do speaking? That said, I believe the idea of a professional musician fake playing to a live audience would make Mr Wilson sick to his stomach. Don't forget too that this footage is 20 years old and the audio may not be 100% with the picture.

I'll probably get crucified for saying this, but ... There was a time when everything Steven produced was magic. Like this song. Like "Heart Attack At A Layby." Like "Shesmovedon." And many others. But, today, not so much. He still comes up with some extraordinary songs, but they are accompanied by a lot of filler songs. Not bad stuff. But not up to his past standards. I guess that happens to many/most creative artists. I suppose I hoped Steven was the exception.

I don't agree. To this day, even the material that ends up as bonus material is stellar. And you know, there are some filler songs on Lightbulb Sun (Four Chords? Bleh). It seems to me every couple of albums he makes something that is on a completely new level, but in between sometimes he's still just trying to find a new path.
