As a GT4 owner myself, get BMC dry air filters in there and your induction noise will be even more wonderful than it is now. Somewhat approaches the RS version. Trust me. Also yank that OPF out if you’re in the states. Not necessary. Some SOUL over pipes and a valve controller and you’re all set! It’s really an incredible car, and while I was offered an allocation on a GTS 4.0, I turned it down as the lines and proportions of this thing is soooo much cooler in every aspect. I too have winter tires on mine and drive it throughout the winter as well. Enjoy, and hold on to it. You’ll grin every morning on first sight.

My apologies. It’s a Sprint dry filter in that one and NOT the BMC!!

I ran the BMC on my Spyder and just got the same setup delivered to this. :) Im not in the states but have Akrapovic titanium over axel pipes with OPF delete in the garage. Will run them with a tune that also allows for always open exhaust flaps. 🥰 Its an amazing car! ❤️

718 Cayman 4L GTS is the better all round car and the 981 GTS 3.4L with PSE and PTV is even more fun in real world use (340PS/380Nm) as you can wring it out. HP/Nm don't matter if you can't use it most of the time - Subaru and Mazda both understood this with the BRZ and Miata. In some respects the GT4 is a car pushed by journalists and some users, as if the Cayman was somehow deficient - it never was. Keep in mind journalists rarely own these cars. The 981 GT4 has some idiosyncrasies e.g. quite heavy clutch whereas the 714 GT4 feels more refined, in some respects the 981 GT4 is more engaging, both are great. In terms of brakes......its the tires that stop the car and its your leg that controls the brake torque - nearly all those that track their GT cars use steel rotors for many reasons e.g. cost and the wide variety of different brake pads you can get (for different heat tolerance and coefficient of friction which impacts initial bite). PDK Vs manual - there isn't a right answer, but there is no doubt the PDK gives far more flexibility.

That car is just ungodly good looking. To me it is the best looking car of all time, at least from this angled front view from which this was filmed. Partly, it's also the setting, this was filmed in a foresty setting that could be in finland so it just makes me imagine owning it one day :D

As a new manual transmission driver (can heel/toe now!) and as a novice of all things car related and novice Porsche owner, my 718 Spyder drives well on Florida roads which are quite decent. On bumpy roads, the 718 does skip around a bit, probably it’s strut suspension though well tuned has limitations but there in lies the fun stuff as I lose traction just enough to gain control of it again. I don’t find it harsh. It’s also rare to see another (any) spyder around town. What I can say though is that, there is NO way that the 991.2 GTS surpassed the 718 on fun factor on public roads. The 991.2 GTS is way too planted on public road when pushed to 7/10 and too powerful to push 10/10 unless you track. The 718 feels more like a sports car for the street. I would use a 991.2 simply to justify using its power and elegance to suppress the egos of idiots on the highways in FL.

I have a 718 Spyder, which is why I was interested in your channel initially, but thanks for treating your viewers intelligently rather than some other similar channels which are only interested in revving their engine noise, etc. Keep up the good work! Love the detailed information..anyways, you seem to be the perfect person to ask: in what ways do you find the 718 GT4 different than the Spyder, seeing that they share almost exactly the same characteristics? I’m sure you may go into this more in another video 👍

We like our EV Taycan alot, but I really glad I will have this toy to play with as well for track days. Porsche going EV on the 24' 718 will be interesting. All the tracks do not have EV infrustructure to charge to support them either? When we tracked the Taycan, -> 2 ( 20 min) sessions and we were at 15%.

Nothing against EVs, but I cannot imagine a Cayman/Boxster, the smallest and "lightest" Porsche, as an EV, with a 2-300kg more (or even more?) weight for battery. Just absurd. Trackdays with an EV is also a funny thing. You can see in YT someone (hard) tracking on the Nurbürgring with a Tesla Plaid, and spending 45% of the 100kW battery capacity in one lap (22km in about 9 minutes). This means an energy consumption of about 200kW/100km, about ten times more than in normal use! It would be impossible to waste such a considerable amount of energy with an ICE car, even under such extreme operating conditions.

The gt4 looks like a regular cayman with a wing, which i traded a 718 4 cyclinder gts cayman for the 718 spyder. the 718 sypder looks like or even better than the SPEEDSTER ! I recently got it, a 2020 chalk manual sypder with only 2000 miles on it. It's only got one mode, RACE CAR MODE. Dealers will put you on a long list and charge you 25k $ over sticker in usa. Yeah.. right now its all about taking care of the car you have or find the best possible used example. We will see used cars going for reasonable price for a year or so more, then they will settle with the people who bought because they wanted and not because they got an allocation. That’s when we will see the right value of these cars. :)

I agree with you about the OPFs. It’s just not as bas as I thought and as bad as in the Spyder where the intake is less prominent and you need to trust the exhaust. :) Have the Akra-pipes in the garage ready to get mounted. 🤓

@@WheelsToys excellent choice ! By the way what I also did ( though I was not a big fan ) is a « light » remap to get rid of the engine code and a light tune . Amazing to see see how restrictive these OPF are , in the end 452hp. I had a pair of BMC GT3rs air filter . And last but not least , a remap to have the exhaust valves programmed as on the 981 , so on or off . They did not close below 5000 rpm while on the move as standard also big change! Chassis wise , I had a wheel geometry ( -2° of camber in the front) , neutral toe at the front. Again big change on track 😎

hi, I saw you had sold your 718 spyder for a gt4 and then resold that for another Spyder. My question was - do you think there is a mileage at which you should sell the car so it doesn't lose too much value? I'm asking because I have a 718 spyder. I love it, it's amazing. But I put 27500km in the span of 1 and a half years and I'm afraid that when it hits 30000km, it would lose too much value. So the follow up is: would you drive the car, because you love it to 100 000+ km or would you try and sell it and put an additional 20k euro towards an upgrade? Thanks again and I hope the new spyder is amazing. All the best!

Had a 718 GT4 for almost 2 years. Awesome trackday car but not so good on the public roads (maybe that is only where I am living :)). Never drove a Spyder but I am thinking of buying one (I asked the dealership for allocation). What is the difference in driving between the Spyder and GT4? And what is the difference in sound between the GT4 and the Spyder with the roof up?
@WheelsToys
@WheelsToys Год назад
The Spyder is the same under the skin. So if you did not like the GT4 for the road, skip the Spyder and by a 4.0 GTS. The Spyder is amazing for sunny climates or if you just want to use it for sunny days. While the GT4 is just as fun on a damp autumn day. It allows for more time on the roads for me and it looks and feels more dramatic and special to drive. If I would have had the opportunity to match my Spyder with a 911 next to it that would had been the dream, but with just one sports-car i the garage the GT4 offers a better package for me.
@v_rex-q5e
@v_rex-q5e Год назад
@@WheelsToys Thanks for the input! I don't really like the Boxster GTS and it makes no sense to go to a Cayman GTS from the GT4... So I either get a 718 Spyder or wait for the 992.2 - I also hope to have the NA engine in it. How is the road noise in the GT4 compared to the Spyder with the roof up? P.S. The Spyder has a different suspension tune comared to the GT4 and, if I go for the Spyder, I will also get the HP tyres (Pilot Sport 4S) and not the semislicks. So there should be some differences between how the Spyder and GT4 drive on the public roads.

@@v_rex-q5e hey Vlad, I had a 2020 718 GT4 that I traded for a 2022 718 Spyder. What exactly is it about the GT4 that you don’t think makes it good for the road? As far as ride quality (assuming that may be what you’re referring to?) I think the Spyder rides a little better but to be honest I don’t think the GT4 rode particularly rough. Overall I am much more impressed with the Spyder and enjoy it significantly over the GT4. As I mentioned the ride quality is superb, the handling feels every bit as good, the body of the car is granite solid with no typical convertible chassis flex, the engine sounds even better …..the only thing I’d mention to you is that unfortunately I think you’re too late if you wanted to order a new one as production is ending at the end of May for all 4.0L mid engined cars, except the GT4 RS and future Spyder RS. Btw, my business partner recently acquired a GT4 RS which I’ve now driven several times and that car rides HARD! You feel every single crack and bump in the road, which to me makes that car very unappealing despite it having the most intense, glorious engine note I’ve ever experienced (inside the cars cabin). I agree with you about a GTS 4.0 being a huge downgrade after a GT4. The handling of that car is so unexceptional after a GT car, there’s really no going back

@@jameswillard1 Thanks for the info! The Dealer thinks there are changes of getting an allocation for a Spyder... He thinks they will prolong the Spyder build... I guess we'll see.Fingers crossed! Regarding that I didn't like about the GT4: very track focus (after doing quite a bit of trackday, don't intend to do so in the future) and a bit to harsh for me. The differences between the GT4 and Spyder are small but I hope will make it for the perfect car - the splitter is a bit smaller, I will go for the HP tires, maybe even the comfort seats (since the LWBS are not available for order along with other things like PCCB, etc). It also wasn't an event. Aka to get some fun you have to drive it fast. I think the Spyder is more of an event - which is something I am looking for as the car will not be a daily.
@jameswillard1
@jameswillard1 Год назад
@@v_rex-q5e I hope you’re info on Spyder production is accurate, my dealer said they are already dealing with angry customers who they have had deposits waiting on allocations that had to be told won’t be getting cars. One thing I will point out is my comparison on ride quality was based on apples to apples GT4/Spyder on OEM Pilot Cup tires, however, I actually switched to Michelin Pilot 4S and that significantly improved the ride quality to the point that my car is downright plush now in my opinion, and there is very little sacrifice to grip or steering feel 👍🏻 …..so if that’s an option for you I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

it's never "safe" to run your car with a CEL..it may just be a cel about the OPF missing but you never know if there's something else behind that CEL. So I would suggest to definitely get it sorted with a tune so you can be free of CEL and, in case something will happen, your CEL will appear and work correctly regardless of those OPFs.

@WheelsToys
@WheelsToys Год назад
The 992 is heavier by about 15kg. But the way the new rules forces manufacturers to specify weight has changed so its hard to know. They now have to spec the most common spec as the weight. Not the lightest available. For the 3vs4 RS we also see a lot more carbon pieces on the 3RS. For the no RS cars the differences are less and therefore we see a heavier car. Even though the differences are negligible.
