Porsche 911S 2.7L CIS engine rebuild.
This engine arrives and comes apart checking on the failures as it is broken down. Watch a time-lapse as it goes from complete to a case in the parts washer.
Appreciate your CIS engine and don't be swayed to go to carbs.

Can a magnesium engine be rebuilt successfully more than once? 105,000k for first one, now at 195,000k.

Yes the engine can be rebuilt multiple times. The bigger question here is why the last rebuild only lasted 90,000 miles? Kurt

with the head studs!..how were they?..
@klassikats
@klassikats 2 года назад
The main failure was lack of service by not re-torqueing the head nuts. We replaced all the head studs anyway and did time-serts in the case Kurt

Kurt , love the videos. I have a question about cleaning oil coolers while the engine is out for rebuilding. Do you always take off clean and pressure test the oil coolers before reinstalling and firing up the engine ? There was no issues with the system prior to the rebuild. Engine has 210,000 and is being rebuilt due to broken head studs only. Do the coolers get clogged up even with a life of 5000, mile oil changes. Thanks. Kevin.

Kevin, Yes, I will always clean and pressure test the oil cooler, no matter the mileage or the oil change history. It is rare for any cooler to completely clog unless there has been a major failure in the engine. However, what does happen is the cooler will get build upon the walls of the passageways. This build-up of deposits will act as an insulator reducing the efficiency of the cooler. With a high mileage motor like yours, I would maybe even look at just replacing the cooler, depending on its current exterior condition. Thanks for watching Kurt

your skill set is off the charts Kurt. I'm saving up so you can do this to my engine. Keep'em coming.

Hi Archi, thanks. We took a day with filming, it slows things down. Normal time is 4 to 5 hours to take an engine apart.
