I purchased 996 headlight covers and i'm very happy with the results. I was wary about headlight covers but these look and fit great. I feel they make the car look classic porsche. link to headcovers www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...
not really, looks awkward, especially at the end photos, like a chinese company trying to knockoff the 911, or lets say a GTA V Comet vehicle, although that looks better than this with the covers on.
I can’t decide if I want to do this to my C4S, I like the look but it feels like I’m saying I’m not proud to own a 996 which I otherwise prefer to the 997.
I am in the same boat as you. Although with time and elements working on the headlights I am thinking to do this almost to protect the headlights. Plus I never use the fog lights because they don't do much.
I daily drove a Jeep YJ on 35” Interco TSLs in college & dealt with the, “Jeeps should have round headlights,” dickheads. so, I get it. but it’s yours, so do or don’t do whatever you want or don’t want to do. having pride, to me, means keeping her properly maintained & clean. if there was a $50 bolt-on part that would deliver 50 more horsepower, I’d do it asap. adding plastic atop plastic is no different. but, I do get it.
Perfect, been thinking about a technic to build those covers in carbon fiber or plexi,or fiber glass, even a wrap, with a second set of round head-lights LED,with incorporated blinker(old carrera style),then sell them to 996 owners,well.......!!!All I need is to find 996 owners now........
These covers are for 996 from 2002 to 2004. The earlier 996 models (1997 to 2001) have different shape. Be careful if you decide to buy those covers for your 996
I love my 996 the way it was intended to look. I don't care or listen to the peanut gallery on this issue. 90% of the people who have something to say, don't own one anyway.
i hear ya mate... tryin tell u how it should look , ive thought bout doing it to my 996 04 , but honestly... hell yeah i luv the 997 og oval 911 light but to tryin copy it... n pull up next to someone n a real 997 . i gotta 996 n thats it no trying to be a wanna be ... i got a major service on her few months back , there was a couple of things , front stearing ball joints or something n other minor old worn parts replaced,.. all up 5g ausd , no ims bearing problem... no wearing noise... i asked the porsche machanic , what u recon ? i tell him , everyone,,,warning warning ims ... he said , ive work on porsche for nearly fifty yrs n i think replaced twice... he said , u can hear it getting bad ... no noise no need fix . have u had urs done ?
I don’t need a girlfriend to know yours is ugly. Kidding aside, the lights really are a hideous blight on an otherwise good car (regardless of the homage to the GT1).
Vincent T. Sorry, it was from a random guy on eBay that had them. I saw he had them listed on Rennlist. maybe try searching those threads to find out where he got them.
Thomas tom I think unless the carbon is real it screams tacky real carbon > silver paint but fake carbon < silver paint, as carbon shows a car is going the extra mile for sportiness over aesthetics.
LEXORNIQUE HD I don’t have a link to it as it doesn’t show up in my eBay purchases anymore. If you search 996 headlight covers it will be there, just unpainted. I think I got lucky they were painted already.
LEXORNIQUE HD I checked again on eBay and it looks like they re all sold out. There is a guy on realist andrewk996 I believe he is the original maker. I see they do sell these on pelican parts too. Good luck with your search.
This cover is for a Gen2 996 which has a much different headlight shape. The turn signals are just under the headlight so not blocked with these covers. A Gen1 car would require a much different cover that looks awful. This one looks great.
It's a gen2 996 so it doesn't cover turn signals. It only covers fog lights that most people don't really need. That car does have Washers but really who needs that feature on a 911 Cab? I also assume you meant to say you loose TOO many features. ;)
Tough call, definitely impressive results, but really makes me sorta feel like I'd be selling out, been giving the middle finger to all the "purists" all these years. Like I said, real tough call...
And then it falls off at a 100mph, hits someone in the head, and you're in jail for unattempted murder. Brilliant! (I'm totally surprised by the number of positive comments, the look of this thing is very poor quality, and then you end up driving what exactly? A wannabe 997? But it isn't one. It is a disfigured 996, which could be kept in its proper original state whether you like it or not.)
No, I mean no! The front end of the 996 is unique and special. Doesn’t look like every other 911. If you wanted a classic front, you buy a classic front end.
pokiou well, I wanted a more classic front end w/out spending double the price and this does that well. It’s not for everyone much like a droning tubi exhaust isn’t for everyone/most people.
