Changing out the spark plugs on a 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo (996) is not terribly complicated, but it's also not obvious. It takes about 4 hours of work and you have to remove the bumper cover and intercoolers.

@@normalguysupercar not necessarily better, just did it differently, I did not take the bumper off, did not remove the intercoolers or exhaust, I managed to access all of the coil packs from underneath, used a 6 inch extension with a wobbly drive spark plug holder, plugs 2 and 5 are awkward but "doable", if once you have cracked them off you undo by hand. Plugs to the rear of the engine, I undid the arch liner, flipped it up, then used a 6inch extension, UJ, then a ten inch with a 3/8 ratchet.

@@normalguysupercar I'm absolutely serious. It's a money grab by most companies. For a little extra flow, most people pull the stock ones and port match them to the head and turbos. That's what I did and made over 731 all wheel hp and 705 ft lbs on pretty low boost. Not to mention, most of the aftermarket headers crack really badly and quickly, due to the heavy turbos, limited bracing, and thermal shock from driving in puddles/rain. Money is better spent on a tune, or intercoolers, or even hybrid turbos. I would do all of those before headers.

@@TheSoundofSpeed spot on. Headers are a total waste. Porting the stock manifolds is a better option but even that isn't needed unless the build includes upgraded turbos.

Chrome sockets do not go on a impact, as it impacts you can see particles of chrome being tossed around your eyes in the right light.

Make sure to do a boost leak test after taking all of that apart. Those stock o-rings on the intercooler hot pipes are notorious for leaking, especially once they've been disturbed.

Haha, I know people that do this to check timing marks on the plugs while the car is strapped to the dyno. Only on 4 digit horsepower cars though. It's super easy once you do it a couple times.

Just don't put the lift pads anywhere else except on the designed lift points , too far forward of the lift points will see the car tip to the heavy side

Just changed plugs on my non-turbo 997.2. Took like 20 minutes. 996 is kinda squirrelly all around. Plus, Porsche specifically says no anti seize on spark plugs. Not that I think it matters much, other than chancing getting the torque wrong.

Good video , but the area showed is always a little bit dark. One thing not recommended by Porsche with a special Bulletin is the use of any anti seize on spark plug threads! It is working as a dielectric thing and can cause misfiring. Second , if I change spark plugs (I change it every 10000 km or every 2 years) I check the coils for cracks in the plastic , especially in warm climate like Texas. Happy and safe travel and more Porsche videos !

Very good point on the coil packs. Cracking is very common on 20 year old coil packs... lots of heat cycles.

Yes, about 4 hours once you get the hang of it. I have a 2003 and the #1 plug is $&!?! Key is having the correct swivel socket. You don’t need to remove the wheels. You don’t need to remove the bumper. You don’t need to remove the muffler. You can do this with your rear wheels on ramps, laying on your back. Once you have the flow it’s plug and chug one after another
