Merry Christmas, and awesome as usual! I wish I was doing car stuff today, but I took a break between tiling the new basement bathroom I put in...and work tomorrow.
Ah - rust. Our favorite! Looks like we both got an early Christmas present this last week. Nice fix on the jamb. You are not alone though, I am doing body work on my jambs too.
Thanks! My commitment to posting every week also keeps me moving along so I hope it's a win-win for everyone. Thanks for watching. I'm really looking forward to what the new year brings.
When you're in for a penny your in for a pound! Honestly this is the only way, (outside of a Gunther racing or similar shop restoration at 150k cost or more) that a quality resto gets done. The way I see it, the biggest issue is this, if you don't do it, knowing you didn't eats at you after the fact. I have been working on mine for a long time and I have a rust spot on mine that didn't exist when I initially started, and it made itself evident years after the paint went on... Keep it up I'm stoked you put in time every day!
I agree! Might as well take care of it now. That is why paint is such a huge milestone. Although I also think I'm overkilling this for the cars intended purpose. If it gets scratched due to driving it then that won't upset me, but if I ignored something just to cut a corner then that bothers me.
Ok, I'll do this on a future video too because it's a little confusing. I buy a quart of gloss and a quart of flat. These are mixed with a ratio of glass to flat 2:1, but the mixing ratio is 5 parts paint 2 parts acetone and 0.3 parts hardener.
Why did you do black epoxy? Are you going to go with black paint in the door jambs? Great progress, and thanks for taking the time to document the journey. I'm sure you would be moving a lot faster if you weren't recording every step of the way. But here you are, killing it, even while recording every step.
Good question, I wondered this myself. There are two reasons: 1) I thought a contrasting color would help because it's inevitable that some overspray will get on the exterior panels that are paint ready. The black will be easy to sand off without oversanding the grey exterior. 2) I'm trying to manage my paint inventory as I get to the end. Just trying to use all the black. After the bodywork is done on this jamb I will be shooting a grey sealer coat on the exterior and jamb together, then yellow! I appreciate you for watching most if not all of these videos and being a regular commenter! Happy Holidays!
Hi, I used a carbide Burr and wire wheel this time. I don't have a needle gun. My understanding is they are for heavier guage stuff, but I'm not positively sure on that.
