As a little boy, 7 or 8, I noticed all the movies, cartoons and kids shows, dubbed every fast car with the same note, and (sadly) no 'real' car ever sounded like that. It was the mid '80s before I discovered what that sound came from - it was the 917. I'm now 50. All my life, this is what a fast car SHOULD sound like.
@@Panzer_Runner It's the sound your blood makes when it goes 'zing'. It's the sound of your license flapping away while the cop asks for it while one hand is on his side arm. Over 50 years now I've been a motor sport fan, and nothing sounds as good as that. Ok, a last generation V-10 Ferrari at 18,ooo rpm, those sounded pretty damn good too....

@@micahhicks88 up around 8300, but in a 24hr race they're going to want to preserve the engine, and the torque curve was optimal at 6400, so probably not much over that unless a Ferrari or a Lola was crawling up your tailpipe!
Just imagine, the later CanAm Porsche 917/30 could hit 200mph from standstill, in a little under 17sec, and top out at nearly 240mph. Depending on the circuit, the engine could be pushing out over 1400Hp.
@@thethirdman225theyre both 917, both have the same engine IIRC just one is bored out and turbocharged, and both were excellent racecars that won their respective races

Es zeigt, das in den 50 jahre jungen 917ern noch jede Menge Potential und vor allem Racing Spirit steckt, mit dem die modernen Rennställe nicht mithalten können! ... Mein Traum seit ich ein Kind gewesen bin;... 3 fertige 917er in Le Mans, 3facher Klassensieg..in 2022!!! Das war der Wahnsinn!!!!!!!!
This is an excellent video for camera position. Makes you feel like you are actually in the drivers seat. And........... the exhaust tone "Resonance!!" ladies we love you but some times it's hard for you to compete.
Or those bloody corners after pit straight jinking all over the place before and after Dunlop Bridge. Give me that flat throttle right hander up and over the brow before dropping down to the esses any time.
Now that's what a RACE CAR SOUNDS LIKE! Nothing beats the 917, except the darn FIA! The 917 was too good too fast for it's own good! Ferdinand Piech designed a brilliant race car. My favorite of all time!
