Worried that turbocharging the new Carrera might kill that fabled flat six soundtrack? Worry no more, as our onboard footage with Hurley Haywood piloting a 991.2 Carrera WITHOUT Sports Exhaust shows it still sounds as raucous as ever…

sounds better than any Porsche turbo model I ever heard and its a standard carrera model. Porsche turbo models always sounded stuffy but this carrera on boost sounds fantastic.

the sound is absolutely intoxicating!

Sounds very nice. Noticed only on missed shift from second to fifth instead of third. He quickly correct that. Lovely sound from a turbo car.

Sounds amazing, and certainly better than my Cayman S with Sport Exhaust.

sounds fantastic. no problem with turbocharging the 991 as far as I'm concerned. can't wait to read about how it drives and try one out. delighted I can still get a manual. when that's no longer an option, I'm going elsewhere. Audi just made the R8 unpurchasable and Lambo/Ferrari have decided to focus purely on the thick demographic, so options for some frivolous and fun driver involvement are getting thin in the ground.

+colin5577 Yup, the turbo charging aspect made me sad, but it looks like Porsche still understands that there are plenty of customers who still want manual -- hence this and things like the 911r (which I think is going to be amazing) GT4. Having said that, for pure fun driving (i.e. not worrying about looks and functionality) we've still got some options. I never thought I'd say this about a mustang, but the GT350R genuinely looks like a great car to drive -- and it has a flat plane crank V8 to boot *hooray!!!* On top of that, you could always restomod a 964 or something like singer does (albeit you'll never pull off what they do alone) and have a really cool car -- sorry purists, please don't crucify me for saying that.

+Axel Nussbaumer I agree with everything you said 👍🏻👍🏻 and btw the reason you can't get pdk with the gt4 is because it would reduce the 0-60 time by 0.2 seconds (accurate guess as that's what it reduce on the caymans and 911 usually) which is actually faster than the new turbocharged 911 991.2 s model but for, roughly, 20,000 uk pounds cheaper

TorqueTV fortunately/unfortunately Porsche won't canibalize the sacred 911. Because of this well probably never see a "faster on paper" (i.e. 0-60 times HP figures etc) cayman. But, that also means if you're lucky enough to snag one, you can snag a car that is subjectively better for the 20k less you mentioned. In other words, if Porsche allowed the Cayman platform to really become what is could be, it would way outshine the 911 and consequently have a huge price tag thrown on top. So anyone who complains about the Cayman not getting to really stretch it's legs is not seeing the whole picture. But that's just a small rant. I totally agree with everything you said.

991 remains the answer IMO. Otherwise, we will all wait to see what Porsche does to "fix" the 911 in the summer of 2018.
