My filler tube finally broke in 1/2 while I was pouring in some engine flush which was not fun to clean up and then I had to hold the pieces in place while I finished my annual oil service. So then I had to replace the tube and this video - like all of Mike’s videos - was great. The only change I’d recommend is that you don’t need to remove the alternator. I removed the two bolts as instructed and then I wriggled the alternator as far as I could to the left and that gave me enough space to remove the left side bolt of the tube. It was tricky since you can’t see where the bolt holes are but once the tube was fully seated I used my endoscope to make sure the bolt holes were lined up and then I bolted it down. Took about an hour or two from start to finish.
I watched your MAF sensor replacement video and broke the oil filler tube doing it! Thanks a lot! No really, thank you for all your great videos, you've helped me with my Volvo 850 Estate too.
Excellent, thorough instructional video. Regarding vacuum lines to rubber boots on plenum - I have an early production 1999 996. There was a small plastic vacuum line to the passenger side boot, but not the driver side, so I had to plug the port on the driver side.
At 6:16 you removed a line from a fitting without breaking the fitting...I wasn't as fortunate. Can you tell what that fitting is called and if you sell a replacement?
Hey. I managed to do it finally. I my case, when the bushing in the back was loose, I hade to turn the generator to the right (clockwise). After that I could take the generator out towards me directly (after loosening both cables in the back. Changing the tube was easy but i only took out the the generator, this was enough. New oil filler tube installed. Thanks for this video and all the other 996 videos 😃
I thought the same thing. I noticed today that the previous owner used some silicone caulk to [I guess] fix a crack in the flex tube so I figured I'd replace it until I watch this. Man there are A LOT of steps. But I just did my coil packs and plugs which were quite easy to do - thanks to Mike's amazing DIY video on that - so I guess I can tackle this at some point. Maybe when I'm due for my next oil change.
