In this video I’m going to tell you all about the Porsche 911 - Carrera S - 997.2 - one of the most beloved and revered of all of the 911 ever made.
It’s size, styling, heritage and balance between old and new has had motoring enthusiast and Porsche fans all asking the same question - is this ‘peak 911’?
I’m going to take you for a spin in my very own 997.2 and tell you why i believe this the perfect balance of a classic car with modern values.

I was lucky enough to buy a 997.2 a couple of weeks ago. Your heartfelt commentary really resonated with me. Porsche's have always been at the technical forefront of engineering, but buying one is not just a "head" decision. It's a "heart" decision too because there is just something so magical about them and their history. Im looking forward to years of fun with my new car!

Hello my friend, thank you very much for your feedback, I really appreciate it! I try my best to make these videos as personal as possible to make a connection with those watching it - as there are 1000’s of 911 reviews out there and I just want to make something interesting and unique wherever possible. Thanks for recognising my diplomacy on the different generations!! 😂 People are often quick to put down the water cooled or the later more modern 911’s but it’s all a matter of perspective and experience! Choice is a good thing and when it comes to the Porsche 911 there is plenty of choice!! Brings the tech in the car right up to date - couldn’t recommend it more! Ah yes my friend… in the quest to convince my wife that this car was a ‘sensible’ one - the day I got 2 buggies into it and further luggage - it was a done deal!!! 😂 It can be a bit like a puzzle sometimes but once you fit everything in - it’s so satisfying!!! @@raashiddin I’m currently looking for a good 997.2 for me my wife and my Border Terrier… practical transport for man, wife and dog!. Previously I had a Lotus Evora which I loved but it would have been torture for our little dog in the back. So I really enjoyed your really objective review with a dry sense of humour. Living up in the Lake District I do think the 911 should be the perfect solution. The big issue right now is finding one!

Great video , i being a proud owner of an 997.1 manual , just makes your blood pump , the spund the feeling on the road , no car can’t compare, even when cars pull up to you with v8s and want race its not worth it , one day maybe they can understand . Thank you for shareing!!

Thank you my friend for taking the time to drop a comment - the 997.1 is an awesome car… prior to falling in love with Porsches - I was a die hard BMW M3 fan… I had many different gens including the v8 E92 and no car compares to the feeling and balance of a 911!! It’s just so unique… I feel like every true petrol head will fall in love with one, once behind the wheel! Thanks again for the support - more Porsche content to come!

Great video. Your commentary is spot on. I own a 2011 997.2 Carrera S with a manual transmission, and can't imagine a better all around sports car for my lifestyle. I even put snow tires on my car in case I need to drive it in winter. Try that with any other sports car! On top of all that, my car is now worth a bit more than I bought it for in 2019. Again, what other sports car under $100,000 can boast that? Lastly, the Porsche Club (of America) is a totally fun community offering a lot of activities and commeraderie. 911s are the best!!!

Yes - I love how the 911 has developed over the years… it’s fun doing the research and learning which car is best for your needs and budget as there genuinely is a decent range to choose from! The manual c2s is a lovely car - if you don’t need a pdk for reasons like I stated in my video that I did - then hang on to that!! That’s a keeper!! Hey man! Just happened onto this comment, I'm in Denver looking for a 997.2 but I'm a little concerned about the NA engine at our altitude. I'm coming from a car with a turbo, and concerned the 2/4CS might feel sluggish up here. Thoughts? Do you ever feel under--powered?

@@Coreal07⁠That’s a great question! I picked mine up in San Francisco, and was blown away by the power. I drove it back to Colorado, coming back via the western slope. Coming over Vail Pass, I was relieved when I could still feel it pulling pretty good even in 6th gear. That said, I definitely do notice the reduced power at altitude. It’s roughly a 18-25% reduction in power from Denver up to the foothills relative to sea level, so of course one certainly would expect to notice it. However, it’s still extremely fast and I have no regrets at all with my purchase. It’s still more than enough power for spirited driving around the Front Range canyons IMO.

The 997.2 will be a natural successor for my 987.2 base Cayman as they have similarities, the 3.6 manual is what I’m looking for as an urbanite who resides in the outskirts of London, this will give me the purest analog drive and feel with little driving aid.

The 997’s were the natural next step for me too and I really appreciated the journey through the Mid engine 2 seaters to the 911 itself. I might have a controversial opinion. I had a 2017 991.2 Carrera with PDK. I was in love with it. Someone crashed into me and totaled it. A couple months later I bought a 2009 997.2 Carrera S. I love the car, it is awesome, so don’t misunderstand. But I think the 2017 was a better car in every aspect. It drove better, it sounded better (even with the turbos 🧐) and it still felt small and nimble. I love my 997.2 but I am actually looking forward to getting back into a 991.2.

Hi Devin - I don’t think that’s controversial at all!! I’m a huge fan of the 991 generation and have flipped between the two as well - check out my 991 review on my channel! I think all 911’s have their unique characteristics and you can’t lose with any one! People often claim one is superior to the other but honestly - it’s a matter of opinions, budgets and circumstances to me. There is a 911 for everyone one! I have a 2023 MKV Supra 6MT and I’ve been wanting to trade it in to get a 997.2. Your video has made me feel comfortable about my decision to start my search. You honestly covered everything I was wondering about in reference to Porsche ownership and 997 generation as well. My biggest concern was the cost of ownership and “reliability”. Any maintenance or common issues you have experienced or seen in this 997.2 generation I should be aware of?

Hi Chris - thanks for the feedback my friend - I really appreciate it! I think the 997.2 is such a wonderful car and probably the best way to get into a reliable and fairly modern 911 without having to sell your house! Honestly I never faced many issues over the years of 997 ownership (even the gen 1s that I owned which are notorious) other than a leaking coolant cross pipe once. Like all car purchases - inspect the vehicle carefully before purchase. Look for a good set of paperwork and a well kept service book. I’ve found that an owner that has addressed issues promptly with Porsche directly or with specialists and have kept good records of it usually have a great car to sell. Also try to get your car from a reputable Porsche specialist there are loads out there as they will only stock cars with a good history and should take care of you if anything were to go wrong in the future. Hi Chris, again hard to say, any one can get unlucky with a big issue on a car but if we are going by consensus and my own experience i have had high mileage PDKs and no issues. One of the reasons the 911 and 997.2 gen in particular has its coveted reputation is because of its reliability and build quality. Again that’s not to say a major failure won’t happen to you but honestly the chances are slimmer than most other cars of this type and age. I daily my 911’s - they are to be driven, honesty I have never owned cars more reliable.

Hi Raj, thanks for watching the vid and taking the time to comment. So the car is actually a lovely colour called Atlas grey - in most conditions it has a dark grey hue but when in the direct sunlight it goes blue very similar to a colour BMWs have called ‘carbon black’. I paid near the top end of £40k which actually was too high at the time if I am to be honest (should been more around the mid £40k mark). However it was a lovely car in excellent condition, with all the features I wanted, sold by a fantastic dealer and with only 35,326 miles on the clock. It’s worth noting that the last few years during and post pandemic and the global chip shortages have been a strange time for Porsche prices; with supply being low and demand being high (for most cars in general) - this really inflated car prices unnaturally. I suspect things are settling down now.

Hello my friend - it’s a colour called ‘Atlas Grey’. It has a two tone effect - mostly appearing a dark grey but going into a dark navy blue in direct sun light.
