Fantastic video! I’m a 991 GT2RS owner. The power band is so flat to make it feel unexciting regardless of the huge figures. The 997 GT2RS is the last of an amazing breed and wins the “experience” factor by a mile.
I envy you owning a 991.2 GT2 RS, that is my 2nd choice in P street cars behind the '11 GT2 RS, but I have been told the most visceral driving "experience" is the 2011 GT3 RS 4.0, and it looks like they are holding their value even better then the '11 GT2 RS cars.
List of cars I'd take unequivocally from the same era as the 997 carrera....Boss 302 Laguna seca, c6 zo6 zr1, camaro z28, e92 m3, any aston vantage, a 458. That being said the 991 will go down as the best series ever built. They've gone too far with 8 gears in the pdk and the dimensions have gotten out of control in the 992. The ultimate 992 is the carrera s which resembles the 993 carrera s in many endearing ways.
Awesome video! Reggie is a great, descriptive reviewer and both of these cars are amazing. I have a 997 and drove a 991 GT3 on track. Not exactly the same but I felt the same kind of differences between the generations. Love the semi old school, analog, lively feel of the 997, but the 991 with PDK just does whatever you want it to with grace and precision, and it sings a glorious song while doing it.
Objectively 997 vs. C6 the adage the more power it has err on the side of the vette the less wet on the side of the carrera. A 997 Carrera S manual is as far as I'd go..anything else reach for a 991. The car of that era was the c6 zr1.people who fetishize the 997 gt3 are misled by false nostalgia. It had its qualities-but it was considerably slower than the rivals of its era from gm and ferrari.
Can I pretend all the reasons the 997 is such a better experience are the same reasons I prefer my 987 Cayman S over the 718?! :-). Love that 997 GT2 RS! Love this video! Great work!
Thank you for this video. It hit on a lot of levels. Been a spectator at MSR and waiting to save up for my 997.2 and go out to the track. Wish you would of had a go pro mounted on the nose of the car and edited to show you entering the corners a little more. That would be my only critique. But your enthusiasm and direction of the video was worth it’s weight. And you had me feeling like we was ridin and just talking shop. That’s a great video. I love how you showcased the Houston landmarks and the great MSR track. Hope to see more videos of the 911, and especially the 997. Thank you
I owned a 997.1 TT 6MT LSD Aero kit car with a very expensive stage 3 turbo build that pulled 600 4WHP on a 4W Dyno jet dyno so assuming 8% parasitic loss, ~650 BHP, she also had lowered racing springs and very light forged HRE wheels and a carbon fiber hood so other then the 4WD, a pretty close approximation of a GT2 RS...all I can say is I wish I would have kept her (I had a health scare that my Doc told me no more driving, ever! So I sold her but thankfully the diagnosis turned out to be inaccurate). a 600 or 650 BHP 997 TT is the near perfect car, you can drive it to the grocery store or out to dinner and she feels as smooth as a 17 year old prom date but if you get the big Turbos spooled up you invite the devil to dance and better be on your game with the 6 MT. I have decided my next P car will be a 2011 GT2 RS, now I am just waiting for AAPL to double.
In the car corral at the Porsche swap meet in Hershey Pennsylvania a couple of years ago , there was a red GT2RS. lots of folks standing around it . I looked at everyone and asked if they would like to hear it , when they said YES !! I said WELL I WILL HAVE TO FIND THE OWNER !!!! I CAN'T AFFORD THIS THING !!!😄😄😄😄😄😄😎😎😎🇩🇪🇩🇪🍺🍺🍺🍺

cool video and super choice of music Having the 997.1 Turbo as manual with a little tune to almost the power of the gt2 rs (580 hp) myself and i looove it. Never gonna sell it.

wow, PCAHQ crushing it with the videos lately and this TOPS them all. Reggie is fun to watch! I think he's right about the 997... I have a .1 turbo and I am selling my 991... doesn't have the same emotional element as the 997.
I've never driven a GT2, but my 997 is certainly special. I agree with his choice from what I heard, but I wouldn't mind trying the two myself ;-) Great video, Draper was really good.
As a long time Porsche owner I have to say that this was a great review. Your passion for cars and specifically Porsche really comes through in a easy to understand and authentic way. Since you already have owned a 997 GT3, one of Porsche's great cars in it's own right, then it is nice to hear your perspective and see you testing them out on both road and track as they are meant to be. The 997 would be my choice as well. As fast and clinical as new cars are today, it is still the older generations of 911 that get us excited and able to feel every aspect of the driving experience. Keep up the great work!
Really enjoyed the video Reggie, have always loved my naturally aspirated cars 2005 GT3, 2011 GT3RS and now 2019 GT3RS but know this had to be an awesome drive. Reminds me of the first time I drove my new 2005 and though not a turbo it was a car I wish I hadn't sold, no "protective" controls and just raw.
Nice cinematography mate, you work very nicely with light. You're right with 997 feel. I can't say anything about the 997 GT2, it is so rare... but judging with my experience with "normal" 997, I can see what you're talking about.
This is one of the most fun car reviews I've seen. Just wish you would have had the over-the-shoulder interior camera so we can see the track & line, RPM gage, steering & shifter. That is a crucial view and made it hard to evaluate and match up when Reggie was saying and what he was doing.
I enjoyed watching this video. Reggie did an awesome job presenting both cars and I would have also gone with the 997 GT2RS even though the 991GT2 RS is a better car. I favor the more old school analog lively feel of the 997 which is why I currently have and drive my 997.1tt. Well done Reggie!
The 997.2 GT2 RS just looks so amazing. Doesn't look over the top like the 991.2 with it's massive intakes and not to mention the rear wing. And the 997.2 being even a lower car height just sums it up for me. Last of the manuals, last of the greats. My most favorite Porsche ever...

What exhaust on the 997? I owned a 997-2rs and threw a SW bypass on it but still was pretty quiet relative to the revs i hear inside the cabin of this 7-rs.
Reggie is absolutely correct in his evaluation. Until 997 gen, Porsche was still with the Porsche Family and the cars stuck to the Porsche philosophy of "Real Driving Experience". The driver engagement of P cars up until 997 was at an all time high with each successive gen outdoing the last gen. Sadly, post the 997 gen, Volkswagen took over and started turning the legendary brand into a luxury tourer brand for rich dummies. They killed the hydraulic steering for fake electric steering, wheelbases & overall dimensions increased, computers aided the dummies in driving to make them feel good about themselves and touchscreens replaced the good old dials and analog buttons. Anyone with talent and personality would want to control his own car and that's what the 997 offered - Driver Engagement and Raw Analog Feedback. I wish Porsche family take the brand back and start making great cars again. Well now with EVs and dummies willing to throw money, I guess that's never gonna happen....
