Porsche Boxster 718 T we should talk 

at last someone not slagging off the 718 and reviewing for what it is, a great sport car, thanks, great video

I just bought a 718 and couldn’t care less about the engine note. The driving experience far surpasses the difference between a T4 and the F6. I had a 2 hour freeway drive on the weekend and the on-board computer was reporting 31 mpg. I’ll take that to the bank.

I love the sound of my 911 Carrera T . I’ve grown to appreciate the sound of my 718 GTS, it’s a very impressive sports car. The Flat 4 is also impressive, but sound is subjective and I understand it’s not for everyone. It definitely punches above its weight. Nice video. 👍.

90% of people watching this cannot afford one new, but i can and am ordering one this week. 90% of people complain about dumb crap like engine sound

I’ve just got back into porsche with a 718 s after several years of financial strife and having to compromise on so many things. It’s a 2018 model and i was a little out off by the so called expert reviews. But thankfully what i found out is that most motoring journalists are out of touch with what you and i want. The joy of sitting in a car that is quality constructed with quality material is impossible to understate, everything you touch gives a feeling of quality. And the pace is perfectly acceptable, and coming from several OPF inflicted cars the sound is fabulous. Finally i feel part of the show when driving, not just a lump of meat pressing the gas pedal. For anyone that hasn’t driven the 718 get behind the wheel and remind yourself what driving is really about

Roger brilliant video of a brilliant car! As a Porsche Boxster 718S driver I have always felt the reviews criticising the engine sound have been by those who just don't get it. To me the sound of the 2.5 Boxer flat four - especially with sports exhaust - is truly engaging and fun. Anyway - I feel lucky to be able to experience the 718 as a whole. Quite a car!

The engineering in that car is very impressive. It is expensive, but you are paying for that engineering. It is refreshing to hear someone say good things about a fine car. That 2.0 can certainly embarrass much bigger more powerful cars for acceleration. Thanks for bringing balance into the 718 flat 4 debate. I think you have to look at the car holistically, which is what you have done. Thanks Roger.

Roger, a great review as always! Boxster T is a tremendous vehicle, and the engine is truly epic regarding power delivery and rambunctious gutteral growl! What I personally find to be the most notable difference between the turbo engines (911 included), and the naturally aspirated Porsche engines is the sound. Turbos have a wonderful primal bark and growl that grows louder but remains constant in pitch throughout the rev range. Normally aspirated engines (I have a 718 Spyder) tend to change pitch and will scream as the revs rise. Both are truly spectacular, just different. Keep up the great work Roger!

A fantastic review , I am an avid biker and really wanted a 718 but was put off by most reviews . I watched your review and decided to try a 2018 base model , was completely blown away by it and because I had never had the flat 6 I am more than content . I hear similar reviews on bike channels about shortcomings of certain bikes then I ride them and love them , thanks again as this review sealed the deal and put me in my first Porsche .

I waited 67 years to own & experience the brilliance of it thanks to you & your real world reviews & it’s going to stay in my custody until I’m no longer able to continue driving & I doubt I’ll be doing that in 2035 😢.

I have a Porsche Cayman 718 T and have been driving it as my daily driver for 6 months and this review really reflects how wonderful this car is ... regarding engine sound , i simply don't care ...........anyway the first Porsche 356 was a flat 4 based on VW technology don't remember anyone complaining about that ...everyone can have their opinion

Hi Roger. Iv'e got a new 718 2.0 base high spec...meets all my expectations. Why does anyone need a 4.0 with higher emissions and fuel usage/insurance/weight & purchase price £££. I thought we/manufacturers were supposed to be cleaner. But I guess money talks. No need need for a 4.0 on our roads. The 2.0 is only 0.5 seconds slower to 62mph. Enjoy your reviews from a fellow "silver fox" 🙂👍

Thanks for a great balanced review - Agree the 718 T is a great car - that’s why I own one . And anyone criticising the engine needs to drive it and not just jump on the lazy bandwagon of “its only got four cylinders” [ps check out your PORSCHE history of 4 cylinder greats guys ] , And I speak as someone who’s owned a few 911’s including 997.2 GTS and 991.1 GT3 .

Great intro Roger. The drone shot were awesome. Your giving away the 718 secret. Some think sport cars only have 2 seats. Drop top and it rocks. Cabin wind isolation is terrific.

I just picked up a 2019 CPO 718 Boxster GTS at a great savings. It has the 2.5T motor. Love the sound combined with the manual 6 trans. I know so many say they love the NA6 motor, but I like the low end torque the turbo offers.

Well done Roger! Thank you for these well edited videos. I love the sound of my Cayman S in sport mode. The base Cayman is underrated imho. It and the Boxster are real purist cars in many ways. Buying the Cayman was one of my best decisions.

Dear Mr. Bailey, yes indeed you have several factual and relevant points. I chose a 2021 Cayman T with manual transmission, PCCBs manual lightweight seats. With the long gearing of modern Porsches, I found beating the snot out of this 2.0 boxer is way more fun, much less expensive (about half price) as well as less dangerous than the 4.0 six on city streets. I am absolutely sold on the T package. These could be the best drivers cars for the money. Thanks for a great video!

great video Roger I borrowed a 718 Boxster T while my 718 Cayman GTS had its first service. I loved the T and in sports + it is a properly quick car and handles beautifully obviously I am biased about the 4 pot and my 2018 GTS is pre GPF so is less muted - I have had 6 porsches with NA flat 6 engines and the 4 pot lumps are fabulous road engines and true Porsche engines. rather than spend £80k on a 4.0 litre GTS first give a proper try to a 2018 718 GTS at not much over £50k - ridiculous bang for thee buck.

I’m originally from the Wirral, and now living in Scottsdale, AZ,....owning a number of great cars over my stay here in the U.S. my first Porsche back 2002 was a Porsche Boxster, which is a very fun car. After owning BMW M3’s, and then a couple of Tesla’s, amongst other cars......I missed the roar of the combustion engine. Of course my neighbor happens to be the GM for Porsche North Scottsdale, so I finally bought the car I’ve been interested in since six years of age. A TV show in the UK where a guy drove a racing yellow Porsche 911. The dealership happened to have a Racing Yellow 911, which I now own. Love Porsche !

Recently bought a Boxster T - my 3rd Porsche. First was a 981 Boxster S - great car, but it didn’t scratch that 911 itch, so after 18 months I got a 991.2 GTS. Fabulous car, but the reality was I just couldn’t use anywhere near it’s true performance on public roads, it was a lot of money tied up in a ‘special occasions’ car, and it was depreciating fast. So it went and was replaced by a Boxster T. A great chuckabout car that ticks a lot of boxes. But it isn’t anywhere as near as exciting to drive as the other two, simply because it’s so bloody quiet! Doesn’t anyone produce a decent aftermarket exhaust yet for the four cylinder 718?!

Roger, thanks for the review. I am torn between the 911 and the 718. I love the look and technology in the new 992 but I feel like I am underestimating the 718 because of the 4cylinder.

Thanks for reviewing the T with the PDK and sports chrono. Porsche's own performance numbers are quite conservative at 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. The reality is 4.2 seconds as you stated, which is fast enough for all but the most speed addicted out there. A simple software flash would would have this car in the high 3 second 0-60 club. Why buy the 'S' ?

Someone at the DVLA has a sense of humour giving the flat 4 a WRX number plate.

I agree with previous commenters… Very nicely presented video. Being a flat four 718 owner I am obviously prejudiced. But, I have had a lot of cars in my life with a lot of different engines and this car does not need a six cylinder engine. The flat four is perfect. Literally. You can add a six if you want but I believe it changes the car and not necessarily for the better. Depends what you want I guess.

The Miami Blue really pops on this 718 T Sir Roger. And it's a cracking little motor car to boot. I'd certainly look at it for a 2nd car... If... That is I could only afford a decent 1st car first :-))... However. That being said, the new BMW Z4 would run this close. And after seeing your comment on PP's M340i, I know you're starting to think of Beemers ;-))... And so great to see the Blonde making an appearance too. Complete with loads of shopping bags :-))... Oh! And great videoing and editing too Roger. The start was quite stunning and the match up with the music was absolutely perfect. 10/10 ✔ Your No1 Stalker.

Great Video as always! The only reviewer to review the Cayman T and not compare it to the S,GTS, etc.!

Although I prefer the Porsche 6 cylinder engines, the Boxster is a great all around sports car and daily driver. Maybe there’s a 718 GTS 4.0 ltr in my future! It would be difficult to sell my 991.2, but I do love the mid-engine platform. Another excellent video, Roger.

Thank you Roger! I’ve got a Carrera T as my current daily in the same fascinating color as this one and would love a Boxster T or GTS to go along with it. The Carrera T is a manual fortunately and has got some special options not to be found on the Carrera or Carrera S, such as lower final gear, shorter shifting box, mech diff, S-PASM, gorilla glass, special inside/outside design elements, wider tyres, rear axle steer and reduced sound deadening just to name a few. What’s this Boxster got up it’s sleeves that the base Boxster hasn’t? I believe it’s not as trickery equipped as the Carrera T? Have you tried the manual version Boxster T?

That’s a really nice sport car, there is only one thing missing: an extra pair of cylinders

Love the way you do the filming under that bridge to show off the sound of the exhaust, I guess that's the Wirral's best equivalent of the Mont Blanc tunnel :) Can I ask Roger does the four cylinder turbocharged engine lessen the long gearing issue of the naturaly aspirated engines?

This looks like a real contender for my next car! EVs will never gain traction as the energy required to charge them and produce lithium batteries is prohibitive! I have a 718 cayman s, i guess it sound ok, it have a lot of torque and power, and i have a 981 gts boxster, and is not as power as the cayman or fast but the sound it just so amazing that is just perfect.

I wish someone would tell me, where is all this electricity going to come from in the future?? And, how are all these electric cars going to be charged? Thousands of charger cables stretched from houses 100 feet down the road where it’s parked. It ain’t going to work!

Nice video and always like the measured approach from this channel. A good video would how do 718 Cayman GTS owners feel about what Porsche has done with the new 4.0 GTS. I am one and totally fuming, I can understand why with the sound but talk about out 4 pots now having the depreciation of most other cars. Don’t want to sound bitter but really not expecting Porsche to do this ☹️

I like this model more than the standard one, but I don't know if maybe it is too low.Thinking about the elevated zebra crossings, or the uneven parking entrances, I'm worried about hitting the bumper spoilers everywhere. Are those shorter springs a problem for common daily use?

No problem with the number plate, but the letters have to go, WRX, what were they thinking?
