You do not need to spend hundreds and thousands of dollar on a GT3 RS to get yourself into modern Porsche with a relatively low depreciation rates. We saw that cayman lost only 1% on average and is in GT RS territory when it comes to depreciation. Moreover, it outperformed many other cars.
All of this does not mean that price will change by a similar rate during nextt year. We saw that the carried over inventory rate accelerated during the last three months, something that didn’t happen for a long time. This implies an increase in the downside price risk. Moreover, it is not an isolated effect. It is also happening in the 911 Carrera market

As someone else stated recently, can you please include the model you're analyzing on the top of each graph please? Or a simple title on each chart? For example, at 4:45 you have median price but unless we were listening to every word at the beginning of that section I'm not sure what this is the median price of? The Cayman? Which model? Which years? Thanks for considering this idea.

981 GTS only produced for 2 years. The most proper trim and hits the spot in the driving experience. Such a ridiculous small amount of stock on market at any given moment too (always either 1 or flat out 0 listed in my 500miles radius). Sounds better than the 4.0 flat 6 engines in 718 even if they make less power. Its a very underrated vehicle that is a gem and isn't getting nearly enough of the spotlight it deserves

Ive got a 981 GTS in Carrara White metallic. $99.6k original build cost, high options. PTV, PDK, X73, PDLS, gts interior, carbon trimmed everything, illuminated carbon door sills, deviated red stitching, 18 way seats. Mods: full length headers, akropovic titanium exhaust with PSE maintained, PS4S michellins, 21” HREs with 305 rears - yes, 305 fits. Bilstein coilovers, brembo 6 piston 380mm fronts, 4 piston 345mm rears, gt3 tb, intake plenum, Cobb stage 2 91 tune, air filters, ppf. Faster than stock manual GT4s. Higher cornering speeds than anything thats not a GT3 or GT2.

I've had two 911's which were also amazing but prefer the more nimble/surgical feel of the Cayman. These are true sports cars and very fun to drive...Highly recommend.

981 Cayman S MT owner here w/3yr CPO warranty. In “GTS Spec” with LSD, PASM, SC, and PSE. White, platinum satin Carrera wheels, black interior, 14-way. My car was very difficult to find. I was first in line for a GTS 4.0 when I bought it and when my allocation came up I passed on it. My sales person was obviously disappointed. It would have cost 2x. With CPO, it’s covered nearly like new car warranty. I could have prdered it and not taken delivery but I don’t think that’s fair to the next person in line. Best part, I can just drive it and not be as concerned about keeping it pristine. My 981 is great condition but not factory new. I can also keep it without concern for depreciation, except for mileage.

Great content, analytics made simple - but with the underlying depth of data It would be nice to see a comparative analysis of an end of sales similar porsche model effect on prices to try to estimate the potential effect of the 718 going EV in 25 I guess also taking into consideration the supply dropping for the vehicle, but considering the supply remaining for some outside EU key markets I am guessing they will still keep some oil motor production line open

Being a 987.2 owner I always take extra notice in those trends. The uncertainty always seems higher for those models, I assume they sold less due to the financial crisis just before. Have you ever compared turn-over rates in second hand market to total volume sold?

I got a 981S used in 2018 and traded it in for about what I paid last summer. I now have a 718 CGTS and it took me two years to get an allocation. I think with the cancelation of ICE the values will probably not go down much.

Love these vids. I would love to buy a sports cars that I thoroughly enjoy and that also holds its value, leaning in the direction of GT4. I have also noticed that the RS models are all over the place now and they just aren't selling like they were a few years back. 2-3 years ago if you could find ANY of the GT models they were gone very quickly. I remember seeing the $300k+ price tags on the RS cars a few years back. Now they are all less than 250k. I think the value of everything is about to come crashing down though and we enter a recession. I say this because interest rates are higher than they've been in over 20 years! This discouraging borrowing and no one wants to pay those exorbitant rates. Naturally this has impacts felt across the board. Buckle your seatbelts because it could get ugly! Soon...

Recent Australia 981 Base PDK owner here. Purchased my car for roughly what the precovid price was 3-4 years ago. 981 Cayman is an interesting car as there aren't many true alternatives in the price range. Most of the equal competitors are compromised or arent on true dedicated sports car platforms (m2, 4c, evora, TTRS, AMG45 etc). The only other cars that offer what the Cayman does is often double the money (eg in the 911 price range). The only cheaper cars with similar dynamics to the Cayman to me would be a S2000, MX5 or new 86. But those also arent as all-around useable as a Cayman.
@vectorcruzusa

What about a Corvette? Are those available in Australia?
@ForgetfulFoot

@vectorcruzusa we do have them. But we have to pay to get them converted to RHD. Which puts their price at about $220,000 AUD for a 2LT. Which is roughly $130,000 usd. At that price, you may as well just buy a GT4/GTS 4.0 or a Base 911.

The uncertainty in the .2 numbers is too high so i did not include them in the final overview. As mentioned, I think the average of the .1 gives a more appropriate estimate. The number for the 987 in the overview chart is therefore based on the 987.1.

Idk what the dealer allocations are like. But in Australia, it's looking at about 15% depreciation in the first year. If production is in full swing and allocations are no longer hard to get. The reason why there hard to get is because they don't want you to sell it. Also if you up down shift to soon and overreve the engine you lost a lot of value. Porsche have a program that lets them know how many times and how bad no enthusiast will want it then . They will want to check it. Then you can only pawn it off to smuk and lose money.

this is all fear mongering. To overrev the engine you must really hate your car. No normal person will ever do it. Even if you misshift you must be on the edge. Only possible in a manual of course. No different than any other car other than Porsche keeps track of abuse. Which is a good thing.

Majority of the EU and Chinese markets, which basically account for almost all of Porsche's market in this segment. The regulations in the EU of anything that's over 2L (or 2.5L in some more lax parts of the EU) are incredibly prohibitive - in the state that I'm in (Romania), the annual engine tax for something that's 4.0L is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2.5k. Just that alone. The mandatory insurance and CASCO will bring that up to $6-7k a year, also mainly because of the engine size. You're looking at spending about $10k/year on keeping the car on the road, not factoring in maintenance, or the extended warranty. In comparison, the engine tax on a 2L engine is $50 a year, and the mandatory insurance and CASCO are about ~$2.5k/yr, much lower than the previous setup. What this means is that everyone's steering away from anything that has engines over 2.5L as the costs are just way too prohibitive. In a few years, that engine tax is poised to double/triple because of the current political layout, and everyone's factoring that in. What this means is that flat fours are selling like hot cakes, whereas the flat sixes are sitting on the inventory and going down in value. It's literally the "Mustang" problem. Nobody's buying them because they come with 5.0L engines - there's a blue Mustang at Ford's in the entire country (only one example left in the entire country), and nobody's buying it, while also coming with a big discount - 20-30% under MSRP.
