+1 for the Motive setup. Last month I powdercoated and rebuilt all the calipers on both the 986 S and the 987.2S. Way quicker and easier than suction methods from the bleeders (even those with power/vacuum). It probably took me 15 minutes to flush and bleed the whole system and that's with air-filled calipers and by myself. I've also been using RBF600 on my bikes for the last decade+, so sticking with it on the cars.

Great tutorial on the use of a pressure bleeder. I'm going to be installing a GT3 master cylinder and RSS brake lines along with a service bleed using the pressure bleeder.

After you’re done, Does it matter if you unscrew the cap on the motive jug to release the pressure or the cap on the brake fluid reservoir first? I released the cap on the cars reservoir first … that doesn’t cause air to feed in does it?
@HelpMeDIY
@HelpMeDIY 4 дня назад
+@michaelgp3410 probably doesn’t matter. Won’t cause air in the system that way,

Shouldn't you also bleed the slave cylinder?

My general vehicle repair garage had commented on opening the anti-lock brake valves in order to not potentially damage them. My ODBII has a function to open each valve as you move around the corners. Yours is the second video I've watched that did not do that and have apparently had no problems. Since I have the ODBII I'm going to do that, but I'm curious if you've ever heard of doing this? Also, the OBDII states to use a pressure pump with 2 bar, though it doesn't say to pump it that high. I'm going with the 15 psi, but again, curious why it would say that. The car is going to a Porsche specific shop tomorrow for other reasons, I'll ask their opinions on these two points. And, thanks for the video, it reinforced the other one I saw and gives me great confidence I'm following the correct routine. See you at the track!!

+Don Oates great questions! Wish I had better answers, but here goes. I’ve heard of that on some cars but hadn’t on the 987. Wondering if it’s a generic OBD reader or those functions would work. Same with pressure, that’s what I learned and use for all my cars. Curious to hear what the shop says. Please report back and let us know!

Sorry but your tutorial doesn't seem right. When I service the brakes on my Porsche 987 I connect the computer and follow the procedure indicated by the software, which consists of pressing the brake pedal listen to the abs pump working and going around the calliper bleeders as instructed by the software. The VW and Audi's use the same process as well. Could you please confirm if after replacing the brake fluid as you did no service lights were left on and that the abs pump was also bled. Thanks

+@nunosilva6787 yes there is a more thorough process for the ABS pump with PIWIS

I have a question for you. I also have a cayman s 2008. Recently my automatic transmission will not shift higher than 2nd but I can use my paddle shifters to cycle through gears. Any thoughts on what the issue might be? Also I thought to check the transmission control unit, but I can’t seem to understand where this is located. Any support you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

+@ShemuelFrancis sorry, I’ve never had an automatic so I don’t know 🤷‍♂️

@@HelpMeDIY You need to service the transmission, change the fluid and filter and also service the drive unit which is a separate item. It's a common issue. There's a procedure to do that service as the transmission fluid needs to be warmed up prior to top up. I've done it at the dealer. It costs about $600 for both items, transmission and drive gear.

I see you start with the outside bleed valve. I've seen others that say, start on the inside. Does it really make a difference? Is it that the fluid goes from the back to the front of the caliper on the bottom, and then the "old" fluid is on the inside waiting to be flushed? What is best?
@HelpMeDIY

+@MrJbipes change it often enough and it won’t matter 🍻

Hi Aaron I really enjoy your videos. I’m planning on buying a lift like yours for working on my Boxster. My concern is that my garage is only 10’ wide 24’ long 10’ high. My question is how wide is your hydraulic lift ? And where did you buy your lift. Thanks Phil

+Phillip J Lynch Thank you! I assume you are talking about the two post lift in this video? At first I thought you meant the quick jacks. The ceiling needs to be 12’

+Phillip J Lynch I think Bendpak has a sort of 2-post lift for shorter ceilings
