Porsche just put the N of Nürburgring in their name to make it PorNsche. Also made a typo in calculations at 9:18 (late night edit) Important comment made by many members of the audience: since sound travels with 331 m/sec and I was standing 200 m away from the curbstone, the actual guessed laptime is probably even faster! kobichief I recently visited a talk with Walther and he's really a born bad ass legend. I even won a race against Michael Schumacher on the ring once. Both were driving the same ferrari. Röhrl drove it the first time. They used it as an comparison while doing some developing work for Porsche and Schuhmacher was doing test drive with the car for month already.

@misha The start of the laptime was measured by visual contact and the Stop line by Sound (kerb noise) - 6:48 Since sound travels through space with 330m/s and your standpoint is roughely that distance away from the finish line (if not even more) you can distract 1s of that 6:48. - also around half a second due to finish line being a bit earlier than the curb. This makes a time of at least 6:47 or less! But i am pretty sure in their very last attempt they were even quicker ;)

That is an ambiguous statement because sound isn't uniform, depending which way the wind is blowing and what direction, can affect how long it take for sound to travel in the atmosphere.

Sneaky_Krait Because it's believable. The Aventador gets beaten daily by other supercars, how is it possible that they have the record of records? And if they possibly lied about Aventador's time, it could very well apply to the new Performante, too. Porsche, on the contrary, tends to downplay its achievements.

Tbh I don t think the huracans record is fake. This article(www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/news/a32879/lamborghini-huracan-performante-nurburgring-record-faked-data/) concerning the topic makes some very good points. Why would Lamborghini put up a fake video in the first place, that alone would be stupid enough, and even further give all their data concerning the laptime. That would just be plain stupid. So just stop blindly saying it s fake because it s most probably not.

Misha remember to take also in account the speed of sound, so if you can start the clock visually, you are using speed of light and so +- the same as instantaneous, but...if you stop counting by sound, then you must subtract the time this sound took to reach you, speed of sound ir roughly 300m/s, meaning if the distance from the origin of the rumbling to you is around 300m you should subtract 1s to the time measured ;)

Here's a bit of a weird question... Why don't you put a camera on the end of a long pole, and stick it into the ground? That way you'll get a higher vantage point and therefore be able to see both the start and finish lines to get much more accurate times!

It is rather interesting that people still call the Huracan time a fake, people do not understand how powerful the Huracans Active Aero System is, 6:52 is possible with it and frankly, the car does not need to be in production at that moment, the NIO EP9 Lap Record is Valid as well, and the car only has one or two existing cars. But now let's wait what Porsche will tell us, i can very well see the GT2 RS Do a 6:49 or :48, I am still impressed considering that Porsche aside from LeMans is not really successful, during N24 on GTHub discord, every time some said there is a crash the first question coming up "Which Porsche is it this time?", their LMP1 Car performs extremely well, but the GT Cars are all falling behind in every possible way.

For the most part, GT Classes are dominated by AMG Audi, BMW, Bentley, Ferrari in some cases even Lamborghini. I currently don't see Porsche be in any position to fight those, don't get me wrong, the 911 RSR is a good car, but I feel it lacks in other sectors. As I said during the N24 we all had the feeling that they just don't have the drivers to push the car the right way. Technicly the RSR can fight the top ranks as you mentioned with the win. But 1 Race isn't much.

Finish line comes sooner, right after the turn, so the car can enter the pits after the run, instead of driving the wrong way or around the lap again.

Misha, great content! As far the lap times are concerned, I really don't think it is all that complicated: I personally only need to know if is faster than the HURACAN Perfomante and the Viper ACR. If the answer is "yes" on both counts, than Porsche has a big time winner on their hands!!

McLaren P1 LM is a "street legal" car like Radical SR8 few years ago, it's considered "street legal" for a certain state or country but probably not everywhere, much like the Porsche 962 street cars or even those late 90s GT1 street cars. Don't you say Huracan Performante was sent out again when Porsche attempt the GT2 RS laptime? Maybe they did something even faster lap record? As for GT2 RS' laptime, I should say it wasn't a surprise given the amount of power, what looks like extreme bodykit, and Porsche's experience on Nur.

I highly doubt Huracan did anything faster, we have seen it crossing the start line, but never the finish line... I honestly still doubt the 6:52, but I ain't going there again.

Maybe the Huracan Performante was so fast that, our eye couldn't see it cross the finish line... I hope manufacturer keep trying to challenge their best, but I somehow can't find a reason other than marketing & self-inflating, lol.

Ok, once more now. 9:20 in this video, you take 19:18:28 and subtracts 19:11:30. How is that 6:48 min? Is it minus the 10 seconds that you "guesstimate"?

6.48 was a very good estimation and if you would have substracted 1 sec (the speed of sound is ~300m/s and and the place were you filmed is a roughly 300m away from the finish) it would have been even more exactly. chapeau! ^^

NO IT DIDNT' they are cutting the laps short. even in the actual video they restart the timer at the standard start of the timer for all nordschleife laps. but they end the timer at the track line for the combined norschleife and nurburgring grand prix connection. this is usually 6 seconds in difference when they cut off the last little straight after the right turn to the REAL starting point. not a lap of the nordschleife.

Production car. It is car that i can actually buy (!) and is completely street legal of course. Only "modifications" should be tires and brakes. No interior removals, different parts etc. This is what i am interested in. All these super limited editions (which are expensive even for rich people nowadays and manufactuters often even deny to sell it to their loyal customers?! esp. ferrari), kinda bored of that lately. It is just way to milk rich people for big money, i understand that but it is not appealing to me at all.

For me the P1 LM is not a streetcar, its basically a race car modified for street use and i am not even sure if the car is street legal in any country. If this is a streetcar people or car companies can just use race cars and modify them for street use and brake the lap record. Race cars have different technic, built for races which means they are not designed for durability like a road car has to be, thats why a Porsche GT2Rs can be still used as an every day car. Why not use a real Porsche le mans car, make it street legal and brake the lap record.
