Those inner tie rods, at least the passenger one looks like it could be changed out. I would only adjust toe when you have the cars weight on the tires because there will be bump steer so you could have a reasonable about of toe out under full droop with the weight off the wheels but it goes back to 0 toe at ride height. Thanks for the videos though Nathan I just picked up a 987 a few months ago and enjoy the content.

When the car is on a lift with the suspension is fully extended, the vehicle will be toed in. You may have changed this from being aligned to not aligned.

Great vid. Looking at buying an S this year. What mileage would you start worrying? If it’s been through it’s second big service would you worry if it’s over 150k? Re: the alignment Doesn’t the wheel hang make the measurements irrelevant though? When the car settles in the ground the difference of the angles will change? Yeah think you said towards the end of the vid 👍

The Farmers way wheels alignment: Front-wheel drive = Front wheels little spread out Rear wheels drive = front wheels slightly in Rear-drive wheels = Rear wheels slightly out All wheels Drive = All wheels front and Rear slightly out

That is dumber than dumb. There is caster and zero thrust angle as a true starting point. If that is unknown, then everything else is off.

That’s a track rod end. Not a tie bar

This too much of a Fred Flintstone alignment. You have no idea if the car has zero thrust angle initially. Yeah, laser alignment is not inexpensive, but a $50K machine operated by an experienced technician can get you right on after zero thrust alignment is initially achieved. If you want to use the measuring across the track method, you really must measure to an established center line of the car. Cumulative measurement wheel to wheel or tire to tire wil not reveal true tow settings relative to each side.

I dont like this way , to much margin for error , the string method is much much better , it drives fine but ill prob still take it in for alignment , with this car the rear could be out too

The BIG problem is finding a place where they will actually put the experienced technician on the job. I had a recommended shop do an alignment on my 911 and it was fantastic. Then I decided to take my BMW (V12 E65) to the same shop. They snapped the two upper rear arm bolts off requiring the replacement of the eccentric bolts and arms. Yes, I do blame them because I asked for the old parts back and I could remove the nuts from the broken parts after a 10-minute soak with the good stuff. Furthermore, on the lower arm they twisted the joints without attempting to free the tubes for the bolts which cracked the rubber in the bushings-- again I blame them as I managed to free the tubes later with I repaired the damage myself. To cap it off they heated the tie rods (even though I had checked they were free and lubricated them earlier) so now they are totally frozen which will require me to grind them off or replace both the inner and outside joints the next time I need to adjust them. Finally, they gave me a huge bill for the work... but I did get it discounted...maybe I was unreasonable however I expect professions to do a better job then I would. Now I purchased a DIY Gunson laser alignment tool and I have got my other cars driving perfectly using an electronic builders level for the camber, the string method for the trust angel and a stating point for toe, followed by the laser tool for the final trimming of the adjustment.
