As a long-time driver on Sardinia's roads, yes they are wonderful, and surprisingly well maintained, However, ALL newcomers must be aware that farmers often drive their sheep and goat herds along the roads for some distance up to summer pastures. You can turn a corner and suddenly, as the herds fill the whole road, you've nowhere to go to avoid killing them. Sardinia also has large numbers of native tortoises that sun themselves in the road and wander across in search of mates. Groups of older people also pick berries by the roadside. The western coast road from Alghero to Bosa is especially majestic. But my advice is: if anyone wants to drive fast - hire a rib boat, or 'Gomoni', and speed to your heart's desire on the water instead - it's far more fun.. and safer, too. A few years ago a mad group of affluent fools hired Ferraris and drove around Sardinia, often overtaking dangerously, and several were killed. The video is out there..
