Suburban and Natural Attraction Walk Series #8: Port Angeles, Washington
Downtown and Shoreline Walking Tour
Port Angeles is an ancient Spanish harbor along the northwestern coast of Washington. The city was originally occupied by indigenous cultures before the Spanish first explored the region in 1791. The city is located directly across the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Victoria, British Columbia. The walking excursion begins in the historic downtown region featuring the Clallam County Courthouse and Odd fellows Masonic Hall. Two extensive incline walkways connect the downtown with the uptown residential district. The routing continued along the Port of Port Angeles walkway that encompasses the Victoria ferry and Wharf shopping center. Further along the beachfront walkway is the 9/11 Memorial Park. Upon the higher ground are a diminutive district of Victorian residences. The itinerary continues along the Port Angeles marina before concluding in the forested Fine Arts Center Sculptural Garden.
