My grandpa took a little,but mostly my dad shot it. I was 7 and just got out of 1st Grade when we went down there,the last time I ever rode a train long distance,which was from Fort Worth,to Port Arthur. I'm glad my parents were able to hang on to this for all of this time.

Port Arthur was once a beautiful thriving town but when segregation ended the whites moved out and left the town to the blacks and now it’s gone to hell.
@djbroxton

Ding ding ding!!! Reading all the comments and finally came across one that is nothing but facts. Modern-day segregation changed PA... They combined the high schools and all the diversity at SFA and TJ turned into one big Lincoln... They call it Memorial. All the whites went to Sabine, PNG, or Nederland. The only franchise restaurant left in PA is Popeyes (Gulfway). Now think about that. Everything else is closer to the whites on 365. They call that PA, but it's really not. That Jefferson Shopping Center used to be one of my favorite places as a kid. It's a ghost town now. I'm 40. So, do the math.

When I went there in Jan.of 1983 to bury our grandmother I was amazed that the whole business district was practically boarded up although there were some decent shopping malls scattered around town. Haven't been there ever since. I hope it has had some sort of recovery since then. It was a nice lively place when I was a little kid.

My dad had a lot of kinfolk living in Pt.
