This 20 minutes flew by quickly! That chapel at Lakeside Cemetery was magnificent! What a shame that it didn't last. I've wondered about this part of our history ever since learning that many of the earliest burials at Lakeside Cemetery were transferred from "Pine Grove Park." Now I know the actual locations. Thank you! The nearest I ever came to doing any research related to this was to try to find some info on the original St. Stephen's Church downtown. Somehow I ended up on a website that told the story of a family that once lived in the same house my family lived in nearly 100 years later, which was just a coincidence. That result about the family came up because they buried 3 or 4 of their children from St. Stephen's, interring them at the new Mount Hope Cemetery. They're listed as one of the original purchasers of plots there, and that led me to the list, where I found my great-grandfather's name, along with his brother's. They, too, were among the original purchasers. It seems like there might have been some kind of fundraiser for the parish to buy the land for the cemetery, from the way the list is drawn up. And now my Dad is buried at what looks like the old 10th Street entrance. There's one cemetery road to the west which might have been McDonald's private road. Dad is buried close to the canal where he and his brothers used to go fishing. Now his nephews carry on that tradition - they even brought their fishing poles to his graveside service so he could go fishing right after! One was a pall bearer, and he wanted to honor Dad. It lifted my heart that Dad's legacy continues 🎣❤️

My family has a number of plots at lakeside cemetery close to the water I was told a story that to give permission to move some of my deceased relatives they would get two plots for cost of one- thats why we still have so many open yet, is this true?

I wonder how many bodies were missed each time they were moved?

I have a feeling your retiring. You should make this into a dvd and sell copies. If you do, I’ll buy one. Gary

He does sell DVDs! No profit, just the cost of materials and shipping. My Dad was at a nursing home and would watch these on RU-vid on his tablet when I visited, but then visitors were prohibited, and he had trouble getting to RU-vid without help, and then he couldn't get his tablet to work. So I ordered the complete series from Mr. Davis, and arranged for the activities director at the nursing home to play the DVDs on their Movie Night. Dad recently passed away, and the family is giving ownership of the DVDs to the nursing home for the residents to continue to enjoy.

Thanks for the information. Bob has down a public service to the city and surrounding area with this series.

@@garyhock2043 indeed he has done a great public service! Watching these videos made my Dad forget his pain and remember familiar sights and places and people. (Dad had a condition that caused excruciating nerve pain, plus congestive heart failure, and dementia). As for me and many others, these videos open up the treasures in town and explain why some things are the way they are

I was wondering about the history of the Jewish cemetery on Holland across from Lakeside Cemetery. There was no mention of it in this video.
