Installation of a 3rd order Fresnel lens and pedestal at the Port Isabel Lighthouse, Texas. The lens was commissioned by the Texas Historical Commission, and is a reproduction of the original Fresnel lens first exhibited it their tower in 1857. The lens will be used as an interpretive exhibit for visitors of the lighthouse.

The Port Isabel Lighthouse is situated 4 miles (as the bird flies) across the bay from SpaceX’s Starbase and the Orbital Launch Tower where the Starship/Superheavy Booster is being developed. There is a fantastic photo to be had of the 19th Century technology Fresnel Lens and in the background the illuminated 21st Century 400’ Launch Tower.

Is it known why the watchroom at Port Isabel is so tall? The lantern room seems appropriately sized for a 3rd order lens, but the watchroom necessitates what seems like an unusually tall pedestal.

Hi Josh, I'm not sure why the proportions were a little different, except that the lighthouse was built in the 1850's. The deck below the watchroom was very short, only about 5'6".
