Made in China's 🇨🇳 lithium batteries are not safe at all. But they are installed in Chinese bicycles and electric cars. - Hundreds of fires are caused by these batteries every day in China.

Thankfully, this time it wasn't a poisonous gas situation, or else a lot of people would have perished. The port needs to do much better to address these sorts of issues.

Looks a lot worse than a refinery or tanker truck fire. They don’t burn with any smoke or harmful chemicals. And gas tanks and tires on the ice cars and trucks don’t burn either.

Good morning, I noted your comment on Global News regarding the health hazards due to lithium fire smoke exposure that was involved in the recent Montreal Port fire. You are incorrect in your statement that the health issues are only pertinent for extended length of exposure. I suggest you first determine the type of gasses (not fumes as noted by the news reporter) and determine the ACGIH TlVs for these gasses emitted which include: hydrogen cyanide, hydrogen chloride, hydrogen fluoride, and carbon monoxide, in addition to toxic particles at the 2.5 micron level. Then you will clearly understand that the citizens near the smoke were at significant risk of severe short and long term negative health consequences. As well, the smoke travelled east. It would have been a more serious disaster if the smoke travelled west to the City downtown area business district. Smoke and particles may enter modern building HVAC systems intake. Thank you for your consideration and please note that I’m not intending to criticize your expertise in environmental pollution which is well recognized. Finally, it is important to note that most fire fighters are not trained in lithium fire suppression and the associated health hazards. Regards, Christopher J. Imagine one lighting up your garage, condo parking spot, underground parking, carport. Your neighbours would be thrilled. Putting our brave fire fighters at risk needlessly, when you could be driving a state of the art modern car that doesn't burn as bright or intensely as phosphorus. Can't wait for this Winter in the coldest capital in the free world(Ottawa). On our coldest days when the "Too light rail" dies and stranded old ladies are forced to trudge through snow filled fields out to waiting buses. Only this year those buses will be a half billion dollars of untested E-buses Trudeau forced a loan on the last council to buy(during the cover of COVID). The diesel buses always saved the day, picking up the old dears. What happens when these new POS E-buses can't even make the trip because of the cold? BTW they're all powered by three enormous LNG generating stations outside each enormous, heated bus garage(heated by????LNG) because.....our grid couldn't handle recharging even a fraction of them. Electric buses my @$$, they're charged by LNG every night of the year. Are you listening W5? Get your Haynes on Avery and get on this story, it's completely true.
