Fishing Port Phillip Bay for Flathead with Lincoln from Land Fish TV. It was an incredible day on the water, with more fish than we could count. All fish were taken on soft plastics, Lincoln was using the ziptail worm from Munroe's soft plastics, and it was just dynamite on the day, and is a proven lure for local flathead and pinkies.

Ty PigPatrol, yeah, only found in Australia and this region. They are suckers for lures, and we fish for them like Americans do large mouths. The big ones grow to over 3ft long.
@TyPigPatrol
@TyPigPatrol 6 лет назад
Do they put up a good fight? Are they as highly regarded as largemouth are here, or are they a fish people keep to eat!
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 6 лет назад
Ty PigPatrol, fishing culture is a bit of a funny thing here, they are heavily fished for eating, but there is a quickly growing section of the fishing community that target them for sport, like LMB. The small ones don’t put up much of a fight, but the big ones can be a real challenge. The people that chase them for sport, use really light line, like 6lb braid. A big part of the sporting side of fishing here is using really light line, light rods, and smaller reels.
@TyPigPatrol
@TyPigPatrol 6 лет назад
Good to know there is a grow population of people who fish for them like you do. I can imagine a 3 footer on 6 lb braid would be an absolute riot! I have been doing the ultralight fishing thing a lot lately, hooking into 6 lb bass on 4 lb line is a serious fight, and adds that much of a challenge!

Ty PigPatrol, yeah fishing light becomes a bit of an addiction. Love my bass fishing, about to head back to the US for a bit, can’t wait to get onto the bass again.

Diego gonzalez, I know! How cool was that, they do that all the time, I try to film a really cool release, with them swimming off, and most of the time they go straight under the boat.

Nice one, looks like all the larger flatties are up north. Starting to master the soft lure now only getting all the small flatties down our way.
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 6 лет назад
Finding Joe yeah, I have found the average size is much better up the top end of the bay. Try a bigger lure down your way, 4” gulp minor in new penny.

Out of the Warmies, across the river and around to the left. Little pocket between web dock and the pier/poles in Port Melbourne. They have been getting salmon and pinkies in that area this week. It’s totally hit or miss though.

Hey mate, just brought a tinny a little bigger than yours. Been smashing flatties for years in the yak, but having a boat now gives me more opportunity to travel longer distance. Any chance you can give me a few hints on flatty marks?

Marx Fishing ppb mate. Mostly altona to corio.
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 6 лет назад
Andy Roo, even if you launch those areas, I would head over to Williamstown to St Kilda area. I find the fish are bigger in that area. I find the flathead down towards corio to be smaller on average. Just drift, if you don’t get a fish, move and drift again, you will find fish. Flathead are not like Snapper, they are kinda everywhere. Message me up at Marx Fishing on FaceBook, I may be able to give you some more specifics.

I am moving to Melbourne from Scotland in a week what rules and regs do I need to know for fishing thanks anyone
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 5 лет назад
You need to get a fishing license, which you can do online. There is an App called ‘Vic Fishing’ and it has all the regulations, catch limits, size limits, etc.

I like to do a mixture of trout and sea fishing is there much trout fishing in and around Melbourne? Preferably fly for trout but if not that's fine thanks for any help love your videos! 💪
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 5 лет назад
Yeah, there is trout fishing. Many of the local lakes are stocked with trout, and there are wild breeding populations of trout in the hills, outside of melbourne. Our biggest freshwater fish here is the Murray Cod, have a look into it, very special fish, an Aussie Icon.

Jacobs Productions, 30hp. There are times I wish it was 40, for a little bit more speed when it’s totally flat, but that’s not very often.

Hey! Im down in Geelong, and just starting to get into soft plasics. Any tips for a beginner?
@marxfishing
@marxfishing 6 лет назад
Fishing around the Geelong waterfront has been great in the past few weeks. I would say 1/4 oz size on jighead, use a small curly tail plastic, and use some scent on it. Make sure the lure is getting to the bottom, and leave nice long pauses. Check out fishingmad on RU-vid, he just did a really good flathead on plastics video. I also have a video called how to catch flathead in port phillip bay, and Land Fish TV probably has the best overall content for land based plastics fishing, watch everything he does.
