Took a trip to artic ocean bought a new diesel heater and INSULATED RTT , my only suggestion a backup glo plug, and back up fuel filter and tools to chg them Thx for vid
YES!!! The solution I've been looking for my minivan camper. My roof rack will perfectly hold it in place and I'll funnel everything through the sliding door and window. I just need to figure out securing it (so it doesn’t wander away) and to build out a window insert for the air duct. Completely worth the $600!!
You can also get a clamp with thumb screws and save the need to use a screwdriver altogether. I’d tighten the air hose in the outlet of the unit because of the proximity to the exhaust exit (or add an extension to the exhaust pipe to create a bigger separation. All in all, game changer
Paid roughly 220 for my heater with all the accessories. Took about an hour and half to do it myself. Its a fun DIY project. Try to recirculate your air from inside your tent for better efficiency.
Super nervous about doing that too. I sleep IN my 4Runner when I'm solo, the smallest Mr. buddy works but feels super dangerous? It also does not work very well if its already below freezing when you start it up.
Glad I’m not the only one. Brand new McKenzie $200 sleeping bag, burned a 5inch hole into it. If it wasn’t for my buddy waking up, it would’ve gotten really sketchy. The buddy heater is a great cheap option but definitely has me sleeping with 1 eye open now 👀 lol
@@4runnershow794 i live in california so it only gets in the high 20 degrees at night. I only have to run the heater for about 10 mins right before I go to bed then turn it off
After I saw this video of yours I order one right away on 2/14/22. This is something I’ve been looking for a long time, I always use mr buddy heater. But This here will definitely help me during my hunting, camping and fishing in the cold season. Can’t wait to receive it.
Wow!! I didn't even consider a diesel heater for cold weather camping. I recently needed to upgrade my gear for cold weather as my children were asking to go camping in the snow. I ordered a bell tent with a stove jack and had not yet picked a stove to go with then I came across your review. I ordered one before I finished the video. The first thought I had was YES! I don't have to feed a stove all night. I'm excited to take this out into the field and try it out.
If you want the most kickbutt / made to last/ backpacking stove I have found to date check out (seek outside) made in Colorado, USA !Tents and bags are super light weight too!
What's really going to blow your mind is that if you bought one of these in particular, you could have saved yourself $400 and just made all of this yourself. The actual heater is only $115.
Pretty cool it comes in a Vault box but $600 seems rough. I feel like you could make it yourself for $300 cheaper using a less expensive case. It's the same Chinese diesel heater from Amazon in there it looks like too.
Is it possible to add a return from the tent to the cold air intake? Just thinking of ways to increase efficiency. Great video! And for the record, I'm looking into this unit for outside work scenarios where I use an ice fishing tent to battle the elements one day at a time.
Ordered mine! I recently ordered all the parts to make my own, BUT this heater is so dialed that I just had to get it! Thanks George! edit: I just installed a GCF RTT and added the GFC $300 air/foam mattress. This diesel heater is definitely worth it given that a buddy heater can burn a hole in that mattress in a second flat if it tipped over.
Yes, best portable all in one unit at price point. U can get it w/o case in pieces for less, but compare price w/ Planar unit and it’s by far less cost
@@pmurphy12667 The heater IS a Chinese heater, regardless of the housing. This thing is nice, but totally overpriced. I literally just did this myself for 1/2 what they charge. I also upgraded to a silent pump and still came out less than what they are asking. Ridiculously overpriced.
Sweet! Can you please measure the noise level? It sounds pretty loud from your video, maybe because of the microphone. I want to order one, but I worry about the noise
That dryer vent hose you are using melted where mine was clamped onto the air outlet. Mine burns way too hot for that kind of hose. I went with aluminum vent instead.
Hey bro don’t know if you keep in contact with this company but they seem shady. I ordered one and haven’t received it going on 3 months. Starting to feel like a scam. It isn’t cheap. Horrible customer service no updates poor communication and it’s a hassle to try and find out what’s going on. Can you help or nah?
Got mine! Took just about 90 days. Beautifully built and worth the wait! Thermostat controller, remote, all included. They even emailed me the heater instructions on pdf plus a great video on operating your unit. Very nice unit at a fair price, thank you!
I use a all in one diesel heater and it works great. My only complaint was I needed to mount it and placement was never good. This setup is awesome and clean looking. I definitely want to replace my setup with this one.
You're forgetting the microwave, the washer - dryer and central air conditioner! Hahaha. I've camped many nights in 25 degrees and never needed more then a good sleeping bag, and I'm a Florida boy. 'Day comes I need all that I'll get an RV or stay home on the couch. I still think you're cool and make some fantastic travel videos though!
At least the Chinese diesel is streamlined. With the fuel tank outside, I can't help to think that the unit is now top heavy and liable to fall over with the slightest jostling. Not to mention that it's now prone to being punctured.
Looks nice but it's just a $150 Chinese heater in a better box. same as found on ebay I have one its just in red metal case same remote same control panel
Is the case weatherproof? I have a vevor 5kw all in one vertical model and I have it sitting outside my van and pipe the heat in through a port but, i have to cover it with a tarp to protect it from rain. I looked a 2 other models that come in cases but neither one was weatherproof. Eventually, i want to mount mine in a box on the side of my van and just hook it up when needed. That is a beautiful set up you have there.
Look like a good product well made. About the hose going to the tent , look like 10 feet... I didn't see this spec in the website, can you tell me.... Thank you
What’s stoping the intake from sucking up the exhaust with you not using the exhaust pipe? Little close to the intake I think. Not knocking on it just asking. I love the heater but I for sure run a exhaust pipe and I got even a longer one to get it away from the vehicle
the intake and exhausts appear to be on opposite sides of the unit, you have the heat output and the heater exhaust ports on the same side and dual intakes on the opposite side together, that said i would like to be able to clamp another duct to vent exhaust up and out a 3 inch stove jack hole though for some hot tenting
@@ryanhernlund9188 the exhaust for the combustion chamber and outlet for the heated air are on one side. The inlet for the combustion chamber and the inlet for the air to be heated are on the other side.
Great vid and yes they are a game changer , just be aware these units need to be run monthly and require frequent maintenance . The chinese units are prone to failure , so make sure you have another heating source if camped in remote / cold environments.
Does the diesel fuel in the plastic reservoir emit an odor - especially if it's inside of a warm car for hours? Also, does the operation of this machine emit diesel fumes that may create a problem for you and/or others nearby?
this is sweet; i like the portability. I have a diesel engine - would it make sense to tap into that? Lol why is the 5L tank more expensive than the 10L tank?
You’re paying for compactness/size. That 10L looks a bit bulkier than the others. Being more compact has value, at least for me. Also, that heater comes with the 10L tank from the manufacturer so it actually cost them money to supply smaller tanks. (I know bc I bought the same heater to make my own, which I now will be returning since I purchased this completed system :) )
@@JoelBebo that was my initial thought, i guess it really all depends on how much space for gear everyone has. A 10L isnt terribly large for me due to the amount of space i have available when going out.
Buyer be where!! I placed an order in February of 2023 and as of now (8 months later) I have not received anything and cannot get a hold of them. Appears they’re MIA with my money. I could contact my CC company but I actually would like the heater I’ve waited 8 months for ;-(
Is there an AC unit this size? I want something like this, bot with cold air. not even super cold, but good for sleeping like 20°C at least would be good. My country is too hot :C
How do you travel with this? Do you put the whole thing into another box? Only asking because i'd be worried about things knocking into the tank or fuel line while offroading.
Making about $300 on each on they sell. The Chinese Diesel Heater 5K runs about $150 and the Pelican 300 box runs about $80, then the other parts they added. I am all for family owned business but not when they are making huge profits
@@DavidGunsdid you guys check the lead time? looks like they're snobbish. it's a 4 months lead time. seems they just take orders and build in couple weekend and ship,
@Hamid Nia WOW sounds like they only order the Chinese Diesel Heaters when they get a paid order and they are getting them right from China. So it does sound like they are building them in their garage (which is fine, many companies started this way) If you are friendly to your customers, respond back to them fast most people would not mind waiting.
What's the best ducting for the output air to the tent? I'm a touch worried the flexible stuff doesn't expand to a full 3" and creates back pressure. I have some flexible stuff with PVC on the outer layer and I'm not sure how proper it is for handling the heat. I love that it compresses down tho. Any thoughts now that you've been doing it for a while?
Maybe park your truck to where the unit and hose is on the opposite side of where wind is coming from or if you're describing almost hurricane like winds; then stay in the truck or keep your a&$ home..
I was about to do a Keeganbuilds (was waiting on a few more parts)…but ended going with this instead. Honestly, not saving much $ doing it yourself if you consider the 3D printed parts on the DIY project. One less project from an endless list of projects in mind :)
First, you have great content and I appreciate what your vids offer me and this community, thank you. Now one question please I can't see was mentioned. Odor, diesel is notoriously a stinky fuel. When we're off the grid nobody want to smell diesel fumes. Please share, anyone in the comments, is that a consideration or is the amount of fuel burning so little there is no odor? Not just for myself but the group I'm with. If I have to consider wind direction to prevent sending odors to my camp neighbors that will nix this type of heater.
This isn't a legit business. They have zero supply, everything is"out of stock" as they only ever had a prototype that you see in the video, apparently, a minimum 10 weeks wait, no contact from them if you try to reach them, and only a 2-year warranty.
Where would you set up/ locate the Diesel Heater when it's raining or snowing? It doesn't seem to be waterproof and probably requires good ventilation for the unit to work.
