I've had good luck with them, especially on 20 meters, I worked Europe (France, Germany & Switzerland) with 5 watts SSB on the beach here in Virginia with it.
Great video! I am attempting to tune my Shark Sticks (I got 5 sticks). I am having trouble tuning them and wonder if it would be better if I bonded the metal together (haven’t done that yet). I first saw you on CAHR! 73 de KI5HXM
Thanks! wow this is an old one LOL. I wouldn't bond them because each time you use them conditions or situations can be different and you may need to tweek them. I've seen people trim a little off the bottom of the upper whip because they say it causes issues when it's down inside the coil part of the antenna. That might be your issue. You should get yourself a kayak and take to the air on the waves. A well-designed inflatable like my Advanced Elements is stable and can fit into a car trunk. It can be inflated and launched in under ten minutes. I am still toying with how to add an antenna mast using the gear mounts on the back deck.
Enjoyed your videos,I’ve worked US & Canada using car mounted ham sticks beside the sea in Ireland ,it’s a great amplifier. Was the buzzing sound on the video qrm from the buildings behind you? Dave Ei3ixb
With all the discussions about radials, groundplanes, and counterposes, and the associated pain and frustration. I am surprised that there is very little discussion about the WRC Otophone mount. (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O8-vS3aJTTU.html). I bought one a couple of years ago and I love it. It allows configuration of 2 antennas as "V" antenna with NO RADIALS. I use with 2 - WRC TIA, 2 - 17' Whips, or 2 Hamsticks on same band elevated to 1.5 meters. QSOs from GA to Eastern Europe, Australia, and Japan. Big advantage - NO RADIALS. Big disadvantage. - COST ($$$) it requires 2 antennas plus mount and stand. Just my thoughts - AC4OW. What is you experience? Opinion? Keep the good information flowing.............
I've seen the WRC mount before and have been interested but haven't tried it. I've used a HamStick dipole mount before with some success but for me next to saltwater I really get an advantage of great gain from the water and a groundplane. You have me thinking about trying the WRC mount now. Thanks for watching, this was an old one. All the best and 73, Walt
