Great upload: The entrance to St. Mary's Church within the castle is my family's burial plot. 11 generations lay there. What is also interesting is....if you turn left under the wooden arch as the pathway entrance - you will see gravestones depicting skull & cross-bones from families of pirates active centuries after this palace / prison / castle was in construction. Beautiful place...with more history than you could imagine.
I'm going there tomorrow. I remember when I went with my infants school and wet myself because my teacher didn't trust me to go to the toilet, then I slipped down the spiral staircase and sprained my ankle, good memories :)
I've been going here since I was a kid. one of my friends found a fist size cannon ball in the wall on the car park side, I was so jealous and now I take my kid's there and still scan the walls for hidden treasures.
My little brother found a big divers knife on the foreshore there about 1970. We had to buy our cannonballs from the quaint little shop that sold antiques in Portchester at the time.
When I heard the music at 1:13, I just thought of Dan & Phil. XD Anyways, great video! Currently studying this for my GCSE History controlled assessment. :)
ToffeeBlocks can you remember the sort of questions that it’ll ask? I have my exam tomorrow and is there any key things I need to know? It’d mean a lot if you reply
My Mum lived in Portchester as a child, in the 1930s/40s & was one of the naughty children who used to play in the castle grounds and run along the tops of the walls when the caretaker shouted at them to come down.
