I really appreciate all your videos. They help so much. Currently porting my first set of heads. Some 862's.

Great heads, they should respond well! JD

Thanks for all the tips. Porting a set of 706 heads for my 6.0 now

I love all your videos. Ported a set of 862s from the knowledge that you gave me. I've got another bone stock set of 862s that came off when I put the ported beauty's on. After all my other projects get caught up, yep, another porting job is in store. I'd like to put 2 inch intake valves in this set. My 5.3 makes good power now, but I've got another that I'd like to build and put the bigger valves on it. I'd like to build a 6.0, but I can't afford replacing transmissions and rearends all the time lol. Thank you so much for the videos. God bless you.

The throat and bowl percentages are key to improving flow especially when going to a larger valve. Another tip to improve flow is the combustion chamber area unshrouding. Even the stock 1.55” exhaust valve needs unshrouding by about .045” Thanks for watching and the feedback I appreciate it! JD

Thank you for the video! I like your explanation of exactly what your trying to accomplish and what would be counter productive also. Only thing I ask, is maybe use a pointer stick or pencil. This way no one gets confused exactly what you mean. Thanks again!

Good idea, I need a wooden pointer so it won’t clank making noise. Thanks for watching! JD

Slow process for me, I try to work in the shop 2-4 hrs a day if I can. I definitely don’t “knock out” a set of heads. I would like to figure out how to show action while porting, POV type. JD

I clean up my 243 intake side just removed the rocker stud and sanding with 40 sand rolls. Do I really need to lower swirl ramp?
@HeadFlowInc
@HeadFlowInc Год назад
Not really, it kind of depends on the application and CID. Swirl ramp removal is a way of adding more volume to the port, port velocity and changing the swirl characteristics. To get Max flow normally the swirl ramp is lowered but you can gain flow by reducing and blending the valve guide boss. The most flow improvement comes from the throat diameter and blending to the bowl area. JD

Thanks for sharing. Have you considered building diy flow bench? I’ve looked in to it and doesn’t seem to be too hard to make one.

Yes, we had several downloads saved of different builds for a DIY flow bench then 2 things happened. I had to down size so no room for the flow bench. We were introduced to Clark Riddles flow testing in our area so I’ve been using his service for flow testing & results. My intake ports for Cathedral port heads w/ 2.00” valve flow 300+ cfm @.600” lift. Out flowing 243/799 heads by .400” lift. JD

Do you offer this as a service? Any chance you'd want to do a set of 799 heads for the new Ranger build?

Yes, sounds good to me! Shoot me an email to iron out the details. Connect the dots jeffdubray@ Gmail. Com

Is it normal for ported heads to leak air near the head bolts when doing a leakdown test?
@HeadFlowInc
@HeadFlowInc Месяц назад
No there shouldn’t be any issues with the head bolt holes. There could be an issue with warped heads or the head gasket is damaged or not sealing.

I was watching your older uploads of the 4.8 recently. Do you consider a sloppy stage 2 adequate for a 5.3 turbo setup? What sucks is I can’t find anyone locally running the cam or possibly a Texas speed stage 3 or one of the $299 summit cams to listen to
@HeadFlowInc
@HeadFlowInc 3 года назад
As long as you have under 10.00-1 compression you will make more Average Power both TQ & HP using the Summit 8720 camshaft! This cam out performs the SS2 Dyno proven, but don’t run high compression with it or it’ll exceed 93 octane fuel. The SS2 is a decent cam and proven to make good power both NA and with Boost, but Holdener proved the Summit 8720 cam will be faster at the track etc. JD

@@HeadFlowInc thank you, will look into it more and add to the list. I need to research the compression with base 706 heads on lm7

Hello. What should be the focus when porting rec port heads? Exhaust?
@HeadFlowInc
@HeadFlowInc 2 года назад
Unless you have 400* cid or plan to make 650 hp+ crankshaft NA why port the heads? The factory Rec Port heads are well balanced, so if I could actual use more CFM I’d work both Intake & Exhaust. You can actually hurt performance if the ports are too big for the CID. JD

@@HeadFlowInc since the exhaust doesn't flow as well as cathedral heads I was thinking of options around that while staying with a single profile cam. This is going to be my personal engine. 6.0. But I do want to learn porting. I will start with junk heads that I have. I know the 823s don't need much so I was just curious on slight improvement. What about the rocker bolt material removal?

your still saying and doing wrong !!!!! DO NOT PORT HEADS LIKE THIS !!!! THE BIASED SIDE IS THE SIDE NEAREST TO CYLINDER SIDE and thats the side that needs bowl porting the most NOT THE SIDE NEAR EXHAUST VALVE. DO NOT WATCH THIS INCORRECT PORTING UNLESS YOU WANT TO MAKE BOAT ANCHORS INSTEAD OF PERFORMANCE HEADS....

You’re so sad. I’m not even gonna bother wasting my time. I guarantee you I’ll put my Cylinder Heads up against anything you’ve ever even read about. I’m really getting tired of you playing games trying to act like you know more than me. Period
