I should add that Portkeys sent me the following info about the record button. Looks like it was my error... but I hope helps: About the problem of rec button problem, we met it before, and solve it now, please check below: When use LH5P control sony a7siii, please make the following Camera Setting: 1. adjust to "Video mode" 2. Camera HDMI output resolution set to 1080P 3. Turn off the camera's usb power supply function 4. Set the camera to "PC remote" mode 5. Make sure the camera has a memory card (connect LH5P and Sony a7siii by Sony Multi Control Cable) Please also check the LH5P latest firmware: bit.ly/3vITXUF
As watching you change the camera settings and thinking “what’s the point if you cant see the values for each setting”. Seems like a real oversight - I can’t ever see myself changing exposure settings relying on what it looks like on the monitor alone. Great review.
Thanks Chris... I suspect it's a limitation of the Sony remote control? However, you get some feedback from Sony's own WiFi app, so something more should be possible.
Another great video. I recently did a multi-cam installation for streaming. One of the cameras was mounted on a balcony front, so there was no way to access it without a ladder. We ended up going with a Sony camcorder and wired remote, but something along these lines with a Blackmagic Cinema camera would be an elegant solution. Keep up the great work!
Do you notice any strong magenta tint in the highlights when using Slog 3 and using the lut while monitoring? Color on mine looks great in normal ranges of exposure but really falls apart when there’s highlights/overexposure compare to how nice it look on the Sony A7Siii screen
I did find that yes... especially when I initially used the default SLog3-709 LUT. However, when I loaded the official Sony LUTs (like the LC-709A) then the problem disappeared for me... so I thought it was a problem with the in-built LUTS?
Hi, so since this video is it now possible to have the A7SIII hdmi input take up the whole screen while still being able to use the monitor functions and camera control? What are the features have improved since? :)
That's a good thought. They supply two different sized aerials and I'm not sure why? (Bluetooth vs WiFi ???) Should be good for the length of a jib arm at least. I suspect the whole thing is much more useful on a BMPCC, simply because, up until the pro model, I found it frustrating that I couldn't even tilt the monitor... so happy days!
Hi there! Could you help me, please? About that monitor, I would like to know if the video on HDMI Out is a clean video or if it gets all the informations that's on the screen... thanks
I got the first monitor and it still going strong. That one needed the additional control module, but as you said the monitor is on the camera anyway. Would love if you could test out the bgh1 with the raw functionality. Only issue is they seem afraid to put a mounting point on top of their monitors.
Good to know yours is still going... and yes, the RAW on the BGH1 is an interesting development. Potentially, amazing quality for what could be a remote camera!
Really sorry it’s taken so long to reply… I was taking a break from RU-vid! Personally, I'd go Atomos every time. They feel like a different league in quality.
Excellent video. Much has changed since this was made. It’s now even better! Rumour that touch tracking is coming too?? Would love control of the Tilta Mirage VND from the screen……
Hi Great information, thanks. I have 3 Portkeys LH5P questions. (1) How can I power it using a V mount battery? (2) Can I zoom in to get critical focus? (3) Is the fan noise a problem in your opinion? Thanks in advance.
Really sorry it’s taken so long to reply… I was taking a break from RU-vid! (1) I think you've have to D-tap the power in or maybe Hawkweeds do an adaptor? (2) You can magnify on the monitor screen. (3) Fan noise is not an issue... certainly on my unit.
I have a project and I need to control my camera from 5metres away. Desperately looking for something like these external monitors or tablet. There is not much videos about this type of operation on RU-vid. This video is very helpful and I wish there is more like that!
Which camera are you trying to control? Sony have 'Content Browser Mobile' for their larger cameras... but I'm now a big fan of 'Monitor+' an app I run on my iPhone. Great for controlling the A7siii which also has monitoring with very low latency. Worth a look?
Did you remap your record button on your S-III? I did and my Tilta record control grip would not work until I remapped it back to the Sony default button. After that, start/stop worked great!
That's also what I thought the problem was... but no, my record button was left as the default? How does the Tilta setup work? It looks like a useful addition for something like a jib arm?
@@extrashot - It's a cool handle with Sony battery inside. It comes with a USB-C to Sony micro USB patch cable. The record stop button seems to send a trigger press to whatever you have mapped to that S-III red record button. So, whatever function you have mapped to it will trigger from the handle.
I’m playing around with the portkeys BM5iii and I find the focus pull to be really slow. I mean it feels like a small eternity to rack focus and I’m seriously not impressed by it.
@@extrashot I'm pairing it with the FX6. Maybe I'm missing something here but it feels like I could have jogged around the block a couple times before the Portkeys finished rack focusing.
This is actually on my shopping list. You say it maxes out at 4k 30. What happens if you put 6k 60 to it? Does it just degrade the quality or does it go black? The latter would be a deal breaker. Weird that in 2021 they max at 4k 30.
I haven't tested... The A7C is listed as supported on the Portkeys site. You should get the basic functions through the Sony cable, but I'm not sure if all the focus firmware works. They do seem to update the firmware regularly though?
