Friend of my mom's lives in Portland. She's a devout liberal and she found a 'cure' for Portland's problems: She just refuses to go downtown for ANY reason. That's how a liberal solves a problem!

And if you try to debate them on the local political issues, they get royally ticked off. One, because they refuse to believe it is a political policy issue and two they don't follow local politics and can't reasonably debate the topic. They at most just go into the voting both and vote straight democratic ticket because they still believe the Dems are the party for the little guy.

The other day, Easter morning, I was assaulted in Northwest Portland, and the police came, and they captured the assailant who is off his meds, apparently. But the interesting thing was that the two policeman informed me that those that day the two policeman were the only officers on duty in the central precinct Right now so you can imagine they had to spend an hour dealing with this guy is off his meds and at the same time the rest of the Central city is not being covered by any police at all. Portland had a small list cadet graduation this year I think they added and 12 officers this year of the fewest ever so Portland is terribly understaffed and they’re trying to do a decent job. I’ve never run into a please Portland Police officer who hasn’t been OK but they’re just not given the resources to deal with these manifold problems

My mom was dropping me off at an appointment downtown Portland, and a man ran up and kicked her car at a red light. Sent her into a panic attack, and we went home. No clue what she done wrong.

It does impact quality of life: homes are insecure, businesses are insecure, and eventually people move, businesses relocate or close for good, and the overall quality of life declines as the tax base declines. Portland is AWFUL for property crime.
