The PDX LIVE concert on the Square that evening was the Indigo Girls. The rain stopped and the Sun broke through the clouds just as the show began. It was lovely.
I don't see any chaos and madness in Downtown like so many other videos on RU-vid show. I'm sure they're only focusing on the rough areas. This looks like any other big metro.
Slowly but surely Portland is blooming again. And I know people are going to hit me with “but what about all the homeless and violence?” Have you been to LA or Chicago? It’s like an everyday purge movie in those cites. Portland doesn’t have it that bad unlike some other larger cities does.
Funny you should ask: I’m a truck driver and have been to LA, Chicago, New York, Saint Louis, Detroit, DC… all 48 states and the 8 (or 9?) famous/elite cities + the crime riddled ones (the rough area of Philadelphia included.) Since the pandemic, Portland and Seattle have become riddled with troublemakers (supposedly brought up from other places by bus loads AND taking over main tourist areas because the tourists weren’t anywhere to be found during the pandemic… supposedly…) and unfortunately, Portland has had it the worst of the 2. A friend of mine who lives in Seattle was visiting and we walked downtown (west side) to get some food and it was just crackheads, metheads, dude laying on the street with no pants on… like it was awful. And it was everywhere. Another buddy of mine had a gun held to his face near omsi which from my recollection wasn’t even really a dangerous area a few years ago! When I pull into Portland and see the thousands of tents and vandalism and boarded up businesses and hear all the yelling and screaming it’s like… yea. And yes, Portland has become worse than those aforementioned places, except for philly. It’s about on par with that. First step in solving a problem is recognizing there is one. This ain’t the Portland I grew up in. Can it return to its former glory? Sure! But it isn’t right now.
I was born here. I grew up here and I live here currently. If Portland had a reset button it would've been long over due to hit. While it might be true that Portland doesn't have as many homeless as LA or Chicago but Id bet per capita we are equal or if not exceeding both of them.
Heathman Hotel in 1979 was the location of Portland Chess Club; and the Church of Scientology across the street. Used to be everywhere there were panhandlers. I'm 63 now and living in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental Philippines since 2004. :)
Visiting right now. Used to come once a yead, have not been since 2019. Mentally ill and homeless everywhere, pearl is now effected and even in nob hill. We won't be returning.
@@obijuankenobi420 You may find it fine, I'm an older person and used to living in a small town. But, it cannot be denied that the city is a far cry from what it was just three years ago, and I used to love visiting.
In the fall, winter, and spring, it rains more days than not. The summers are mostly warm and dry though. If you want to avoid a cold, dark, soggy visit to Portland or Seattle (they both have the same climate), July-September is the best time to visit.
I hate to be " that guy" But all these area's in this video look NOTHING like that now, its just boarded up no little fancy biestros or cafe's, all one would see now is garbage, homeless people and their tents, cars with broken out windows etc. there is NOT a starbucks to be found anymore down there, the next mall over Lloyd center is all but vacant. downtown PDX is in a sad state now, nothing to visit down there, I would tell people to go visit the Hawthorne blvd, woodstock, or 19th and 21st areas of pdx.
Well Noah the ark didnt make it. It hilarious watching people denying how empty depressing and crime ridden pee town is. Personally i think people who get paid for tourism and real estate and lie should have to defend themselves
Portland violent crime rate isn't even bad.. totally exaggerated. Try walking around Memphis, st Louis, Detroit, Gary, Chicago etc in the middle of the damn day 😆 makes a few homeless methed up zombies seem not that bad
@@aaronkamakaze2967 Not bad compared to Chicago or Detroit, but Portland has been getting drastically worse each year. You can't even let your kids play in their own yards in many neighborhoods, or leave your car on the street.
Of course you " aren't sure ".. What fking city has boarded up windows and is fine genius? And its to prevent lefty wing antifa trash from vandalism. You're welcome
