Oil paint: Titanium white, Cadmium yellow, Cadmium red, Alizarin crimson, Ultramarine blue and Burnt umber.
On Canvas Pad.
Brush: Various size of synthetic flat. Loew Cornell
Medium: Linseed oil.

Really great painting. Thanks for sharing. Two questions. Do you ever paint by starting with a finished outline drawing on canvas, or do you always paint in this bold style? Also, why did you show the finished painting right from the start and not show the reference you were painting from? Just wondering. Thanks again.

I missed your second question. In case I don't have the licence of the image, I can't show the reference photo. Instead, I put the finished work, hopping it would helps anyone to see the goal.

Excuse me if I dare too much because the way you painted is admirable in all his ways, but I think the background has to be a grey-green of an intermediary value (luminosity) between face-light and darkness of hair, a little whiter that the shadow of the right cheek. The way you painted is like the light of face and background is on same plane and the hair is a hollow... A background little darken would harness the light on the face also…

Ah! I see what you mean by wrong position! Its to do with camera's placement!
