Think back to the 70’s when my brother was in and you would have had ships 3 abreast in Portsmouth. Scary how small our fleet is now! Yes we’ve got some hi tech kit but in my opinion there’s no substitute for numbers!
65,000 tonnes was used in conjunction with this class of Queen Elizabeth Carrier's.However in 2014 it seems the figure was adjusted to 70,600 tonnes after a survey by the Royal Institute of Naval Architects. but the figure has never been adjusted.
Many estimate the full load to be 77,000+t, which is close to a full load Kitty Hawk. So they are pretty much equal in strike force comparing to USS Nimitzs with 5th gen jets embarked. Awesome job we have done!
I really enjoyed this, so thanks for recording and posting. The tour guide needs to go back to tour guide school mind, spouting inaccurate historical 'facts' and poorly researched details about the current navy vessels and Queen Elizabeth. If they've a vacancy I could start next week. Always best to employ a true hobbyist, with the historical and technological knowledge in such roles. Someone will stop being all English and polite, and call him out eventually.
Hi Ray, Can't remember how much it was, we got a family ticket, as 4 of us. Ticket sales were from a little hut just outside of Gun wharf Quays, near the Spinnaker tower.
