Vamos a Espana!!! We are so excited as this is the start of our 3 week tour of Spain, Portugal and France in our Motorhome Indie and it all kicks off with the Portsmouth to Santander ferry after we finish work on a Friday night. We are doing the crossing with Brittany Ferries on their newest ship Santona so come with us as we show you around and see what its like as we spend 33 hours at sea!
Before we set sail from Portsmouth we head to Port Solent for a bite to eat as we found out this was a good place to stay overnight if you need to before or after your ferry crossing.
Thanks for watching and see you soon xx

Really fascinating to see this as it is in fact a ferry journey we have been considering for a long time. Ferries like Santona are becoming more close to the comfort and environment of a modern cruise ship, meaning that the journey to your destination is a more pleasant one than in times past. Great video with lots of detailed and useful information and insights.
@AdventureswithAmandaandMark
Hi, its good to have an idea of what to expect isn’t it?! We had ruled it out previously because of the cost and should have been going from Portsmouth to Caen. A few things about our route through France were going to change so we decided to see if we could amend our ferry to this one and it was only a few hundred more and that was mostly because they didn’t have any 2 berth cabins left. We love cruising so for us it was like the start of our holiday, albeit a very choppy start but the quizzes and the dining experience made us feel like we were on one 😂 Thank you so much for watching and for your comments, we appreciate that - Amanda & Mark 😍

@@AdventureswithAmandaandMark Hi we are traveling from Portsmouth to Bilboa then driving in a car to Benidorm where we stay for 3 weeks in an apartment we have done the trip many times in the past but this will be the first time on the new ferry. Our very first trip we put the dogs in the cages but never again as the dogs were stressed as was my wife lol we have to book the pet friendly cabins about 12 months in advance as they are taken so quickly.

Have been on the Galicia several times. One good thing is that cars no longer can get stuck in the 'hole' below the decks and be last off. Just a couple of caveats re the new boats. The basic cabins are all located on deck 7 towards the stern of the vessel. They are also directly above the engines. In anything apart from a flat calm the boats tend to corkscrew at the stern and if you suffer from mal de mer this can be very upsetting. We realised that those in the know book the top grade cabins which are nearer the bow and much more stable. Also when we booked we were told meals were included but when we sailed we found this had been cancelled as Brittany Ferries stated too many people had eaten so much food that it was uneconomical so they reverted back to paying for dinner on board. No change in ticket price though. Again taking a topgrade cabin includes a lounge where some food and drinks are free. Take a good book as do not expect too much in the way of entertainment. The 2 nights out are long but the disembarkation in Spain at 9am local time usually means you can get a long way in Spain. On return to the UK try to get priority disembarkation or you could be in the queue for immigration for over an hour. In our case they decided it was good fun to load another boat by moving vehicles through the queue so constant stop start.

Thanks for your comment 😊 Sounds like you are very well travelled when it comes to these ferries ⛴️ We will be taking the Euro Tunnel the next time we go to Europe which will be another new experience for us but would definitely do this crossing again and if the price is right maybe we'll get one of those top grade cabins 😊 Thank you so much for watching - Amanda & Mark 😍

One of the best UK>Spain Brittany ferry reviews I’ve seen on YT. We will be doing Galicia and Santona in August with our (almost) 5 year old and this gave a great view of what we can expect….. thank you. I’ll be doing a review from a family point of view 😀 As for the pull out drawer under the bed. Our cabin last weekend on Stena line to/from Hook of Holland also had them. Was like a little table, but we could see no real use.
@AdventureswithAmandaandMark
Oh thank you so much, thats very kind of you to say so! Are you onboard for one or two nights? There will hopefully be loads to keep your 5 year old entertained - there was definitely kids stuff going on although we didn’t see it and a couple of play rooms and loads of films etc on the cabin TVs. Are you going to be travelling around in a Motorhome? Thanks for the under bed draw information and for watching - Amanda & Mark 😍

Hi Cain. So for us the main benefit was where we live which is in Cornwall. Our nearest ferry port is Plymouth but they only go twice a week so we chose Portsmouth as we could drive up after work and travel overnight. We travelled on the sister ship Galicia 2 years ago when that ship was only two months old. Comparing with the old ships such as the Pont Avon, the Galicia was terrible and vowed I would never use Brittany Ferries again! The layout of the lounges were poor with lifeboats obscuring any views through the windows. The food was poor. None of the tech, such info maps etc, did not work. The crossing time on these new boats has increased by 12 hours. We are giving Brittany Ferries one more chance by travelling from Santander to Plymouth on the last of the old boats, the Pont Avon to see if that boat is still the same as it used to be. It is also 12 hours quicker!

Plugs in the cabin - British or Euro please?
@AdventureswithAmandaandMark
Hi, we remember charging all our gadgets so there were definitely USB points as well as a British plug and possibly an EU one too. Thanks for watching - Amanda & Mark 😍

Hi Harry 🤔 That’s a good question! We usually always say how much our campsites cost and tickets for transport etc and we did put the cost of this ferry journey and the return one at the end of our last video for this tour but going forward we will try to provide this information earlier on. Thanks for watching and your comment - Amanda & Mark 😍

Never thought of it like that - guess they're not going to be too luxurious but we're used to cruise ships and didn't think it was too bad really 😂 Thanks for watching 😍
