Portswood is a suburb of Southampton, Hampshire. It was the home of R J Mitchell, chief designer of the Supermarine Spitfire. Also, the captain of the Titanic, Captain Edward J Smith lived there. The main campus of the University of Southampton is nearby, and a large number of the residents of Portswood are students. The main town still retains the old library which is over 100 years old, and The Broadway cinema, which is now a church.
