It's funny when foreigners say the Portuguese are always eating or seem obsessed with food. The fact is that when they arrive to Portugal they talk about food (and eat!) constantly. When they talk about Portugal they usually refer to the people, the food and the history.
Born and raised in the U.S spent every summer in portugal portugal is a beautiful country full of history and great food for every fatty dish there is a healthy option of grilled fish and plenty of salads. The fork and knife thing I think is global etiquette.
That cafe your telling it's called pastelaria Zé Natário in Viana do Castelo. And the holiday it's called festas da nossa senhora da agonia. You know your way around Portugal.
Still haven't wrapped my head around you americans not using knifes when eating. I did see a person like that recently and thought that he came from a country in the far east where they eat with sticks, so he was not used to cutlery. Yes, it's strange for us. One question though, how do you cut your steaks without a knife???
Os americanos, se soubessem a importancia que os portugueses tiveram na exploração e desenvolvimento dos continentes, respeitavam-nos mais, ao ponto de ao menos saberem onde Portugal fica!
Anyone in Europe, Africa, and almost all of America (and let's say almost all over the world) knows how to eat with a knife and fork, it comes from education and etiquette since you were born!
For us is normal to eat with fork and knife. We have the same respect for those who eat with fork and knife as those who use just fork. But in general you got it right.
Best paistre in Portugal? Monastery treats, with sugar, eggs, almonds, nuts, pumpkin, yellow pees or sweet poratoes...thats a lot of different paistres
Everyone talks about the Moors "invading" Iberia, but, due to our western-biased history, rarely admit that the Roman Catholic Church invaded as well (and did more damage).
Many of the castles are not really ours 🤔 they were made by other people like arabs and than some of them were used by we Portuguese to defende the borders with the kingdom of Spain. We have many in the borders 🤗. But we have other in the coast like "castelo de são Jorge" in the Heart of lisbon. In one of then 7 hills of Lisbon. Is a very nice travell to do walking🤗🤗🤗
Easy dish in Portugal is called prato das putas (dish of the whores) is made with sausages hamb and French potatoes 🤣🤣🤣. Its not a offence but I dont know who gave the name 🤔🤗
I live in Portugal for 28 years. The food is good, but it's too fatty. The sweets are egg with sugar, mostly. Bread and pastry is nice! Compared to other places, yes is amazing, but when you live here for long enough you see the problems - and there are a lot.
