@ossmbc that's not what I meant. I meant it's ironic that these players were the ones ending off the pitch, while the truly dirty players got to finish the game
i will never ever forget watching this game. i was 11 years old and my dad was watching this upstairs on some really shitty projection tv and i was downstairs playing habbo hotel. i kept hearing my dad screaming early on in the game so i decided to go upsairs and watch it because i had remembered the sadness of two years earlier in 2004 with portugal vs greece. what i ended up seeing probably changed my life. it was this insane tussel between players i had grown to know against also dutch players i had learned of online through old websites like psoccer. it was the craziest thing i had ever seen on tv and as time had gone on i continued to remember how crazy it was. portugal continued to win extremely nail biting games and it was so entertaining and also so stressful. by the time portugal vsed france i could not watch any longer and they lost. the feeling 10 years later in 2016 when they won, when eder of all people scored the goal. when he was subbed in i said to my mom, omg he sucks fk, i remember it so clearly, and he scored. my god it was the best feeling in the world.
Incredible man! I was 10 when I saw this match live w my dad in our new living room. I belive we are about the same age man. Hope yall 🇵🇹 make it to this upcoming world cup. Would be an embarrassment for santos
And how do you feel when idiots start telling lies of how cristiano Ronaldo played with inferor team mates to messi's team mates in International football ? The biggest lie in internet history.
The Dutch started it when first van Bommel tackled Ronaldo from behind, and a few minutes later Boulahrouz attacked Cristiano, extending his leg at Ronaldo's waist level and kicking him in the thigh with all the power. And for that, Boulahrouz only got a yellow card, which was ridiculous. Raising your leg to waist level and kicking it around the waist and thigh of the opposition player, should immediately be a red card, period. This violent foul shows that the Dutch wanted to eliminate Cristiano from the very beginning because Cristiano was already, back then, the biggest threat to them and Portugal's biggest star. It's clear as day. And the Dutch managed to do it because Cristiano eventually had to leave the field very early in the first half, with an injury. So for me, everything that Portugal did afterwards was justified. It was the Dutch who started it, they eliminated Ronaldo due to a disgusting foul, so the Portuguese responded. The referee was at fault, he made a huge mistake - he should have immediately given Boulahrouz a red card for this disgusting attack on Ronaldo. It would be a clear signal to both teams that there would be no tolerance for any harsh fouls, and then neither team would make such a mess out of this match.
Some of these comments are disgraceful. Cristiano was literally in tears because he had to leave the pitch, he desperately wanted to play, but he couldn't continue, the Dutch injured him with this violent, disgusting attack! It should have been a straight red card for Boulahrouz, period. The Dutch started it all, so I don't feel sorry for them AT ALL. Portugal had a right to respond. I remember watching it, I was so pissed at the Dutch and the ref, Cristiano was and is my favorite player, and the way they attacked him was very dangerous and disgusting!
Thank you for showing entire highlights, not just the tackles, fouls and cards. Because I watched that game and definitely remember there was more than violence to it, plenty of skill on display and chances for both teams.
Manichie never became anything at club level ??? He won the champions league with Porto . He also played for Chelsea but they hardly have him game time.
@@afonsocosta3082 They wanted to injure Cristiano, and they actually did it. That was the only option they had for stop Portugal and even with that they couldn't
that isn't red card because if you watch it at slow mo, you will see that the Portuguese player's feet first touched the Ball and then hit Dutch player's face.
Van Nisterlooy should had scored at least once in those chances Kuyt missed though. Netherlands created a lot of chances in this game but it was clear that they needed a clear striker to finish the job.
The referee was a disgrace. At 1:34 he should have given a red card, not only for the seriousness of the foul, but considering that it was Netherland's second foul in just 7 minutes of play. It was predictable that the game would be violent. At 9:35 Deco's foul was even predicted by the commentators, the Dutch team was supposed to deliver the ball to the Portuguese or kick it out as fair play and they simply went ahead with the attack. The Dutch team abused all the time under the benevolence of the referee and the Portuguese were forced to respond with the same aggressiveness to win the game.
That is actually prety accurate. Also Portugal just made a documentary on Ronaldo's history on the national team and when talking about the 2006 WC, they spoke about this game and revealed that the Netherlands oficials went to referee dressing room before the game started, which is Ilegal and Portugal complained to FIFA back then. This made Portuguese players angry as they thought they were going to get robbed, then the game starts and the dutch purposely injure Ronaldo ! Obviously everyone went crazy.
palacerevolution2000 as a dutchmen myself (who was 2 during the match), technically you’re wrong but also right. If two penalty’s were robbed from a team, they should have the ability to score them. However, they played like cunts. This match is seen in Dutch history as a discrace, and rightfully so
@@fatyoshi4853 It is not a disgrace, you lost to Portugal, not Armenia. In a knockout world cup match anything can happen. Plus Netherlands was the better side overall with many chances to score.
@@Reddragon-hn6ot both teams played like bitches. I'm dutch but damn, they both deserved to lose. No team deserved to win. This match was a disgrace indeed.
epic match! i watched it on large screen projector....liked it so much at that time also. the fouled cr7 soo badly. that time i supported fr dutch. but now i support portugal fr cr7. we didnt need wresting at that time, huh!? :p
People complain about how the ref lost control of this match, but most of these cards are totally justified. Hell I saw 2 challenges that should be reds he only gave yellows for.
If he hadn't been so lenient, and had red-carded Bouhlarouz immediately, it would probably not escalated as much. The Dutch strategy was to injure Ronaldo (and they succeeded in doing that), and if they had been immediately penalized for it, the game could have had a very different outcome.
You can already see that a lot of difference has crept in between they way they played back then and the way they play now. They used to love to try it from a distance, which is unfortunately less so now. Also players were not so afraid to get dirty and physical as today, these days you only see ballerinas on the field.
Netherlands had many chances in the second half. If Van Basten had put Van Nistelrooy as a sub in Kuyt's place he could had easily scored one goal out of these chances.
