Microstructure of Bainite
Here we explore the known features of bainite in steels, which in subsequent lectures are explained in terms of the atomic mechanism by which bainite forms. The bainite reaction on a time--temperature transformation diagram, in the context of all the other transformations that occur in steels; the microstructure of upper and lower bainite; the carbides that form during the bainite reaction; the sub--unit of bainite; the behaviour of substitutional solutes such as Mn, Si, Cr during the bainite reaction; the behaviour of interstitial solutes such as carbon or nitrogen during the bainite reaction; the shape deformation due to bainite; plastic relaxation.

Dear professor Bhadeshia, I am working on CP steels. I have an SEM image of 2 bainite grains. I can see the orientation of the carbides (it's along the RD and 90 degrees with respect to the RD on the RD-TD plane). I have not done EBSD though. Is there a possibility to calculate the orientation of the bainitic ferrite? Regards, Panos

Dear professor Bhadeshia, Massive ferrite is reconstructive transformation , but some articles introduce massive ferrite contains a high dislocation density, why this reconstructive transformation have high dislocation density?

+Smith George Massive ferrite generally forms in zero carbon alloys or those with very little carbon. To obtain it often requires rapid cooling, which might give rise to thermal stresses. But I am speculating here.

Sir this are very useful lectures but the video quality is not that great. Can you kindly share the link where we can get good video quality of these lectures

Hello sir, i want know where does acicular ferrite forms in TTT diagram of AISI 8620?? I couldn't attach the TTT diagram file here. But it is available in the following link www.nickelinstitute.org/~/Media/Files/TechnicalLiterature/IsothermalTransformationDiagramsofNickelAlloySteels_389_.pdf

I cannot answer about a specific steel without doing a great deal of work, but acicular ferrite forms below the B_S temperature and nucleates on non-metallic inclusions.
