OMG!!!! so true! Her voice is so warm, vulnerable but has strength. They're so beautiful here. This is what makes me so happy to be part of the LGBTQ community. The hateful things I heard when I was growing up and today banish when I see this show. That is why art is so powerful! I wish I had a show like this when i was younger.

I just really really love the show, I did not know that about it though. I guess that is why the stories feel realistic to me. I know these people, I know these stories. I have lived them or know others who have. Now I know why, it's actually written by the LGBTQ+ and POC communities. I'm cis, but I am gay and my dad was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. I grew up and live in a very multi-cultural area of Michigan, I'm friends with all types of people as well, so I'm usually pretty decent at pointing out phony dialogue and situations and things of that nature in a show or movie. Like I said before, now I know why this show always feels so real to me. I need to get MORE into this show like I do with science fiction shows I watch and obsess over it. Not very many LGBTQ+ shows on television to begin with, and none of them are on the same level as Pose.

I had a chance to be with someone who was so sweet and cute and was HIV positive but i guess i was scared. I was very young and let him go. @Xaria quinn I don't know that I agree that cis women can have all kinds of looks and personalities. We are judged pretty harshly too. All women are pretty much only worth anything to anyone if we're "fuckable." At least, that's been my experience. But I do agree that it's wrong to only value trans women when they align with conventional cis beauty standards. People are all worthy of love, respect, and dignity no matter their gender, race, nationality, religion, no matter what. We are all as natural as the star dust we're made of.

Watching her on “Pose” and hearing how they supposedly “toned down” her look, how they kept talking on the show about her being “clocked” as trans and not looking “real” was bizarre. She looked stunning throughout, no matter how plain they tried to make her. I kept trying to see “male” in her and, quite honestly, it just never worked. She’s far too lovely.

I used to be very ignorant of what the LGBTQIA experience (particularly trans women of color) is. My main exposure was through denigrating and debased media lenses like Jerry Springer. I like to think I’ve evolved to learn that, although male and female are biological and scientifically indisputable, masculine and feminine is more of the energy residing in and projected from one’s spirit and how we see ourselves in the world. These are clearly feminine embodied people. Women in terms of their energy and mindset. If you are a man and you can look at these two beautiful people and see the same, then you need to re-examine your own concept of what a man and masculinity is.

When I see people encouraging little boys who have shown zero interest in and have no clue about trans or anything else to paint their nails and wear dresses it’s a problem. Dealing with various mental states and conditions is one thing and permeating society with damaging concepts is another. i think sometimes it's a difficult choice to make, because in some storylines the trans person hasn't really transitioned yet and a cis person is able to portray the trans person before the transition physically better, than a fully transitioned trans person can. Like in oitnb when laverne cox's irl twin brother took the part of sophia's life before her transition. But i don't see the point of cis people playing the part of a trans person who has completely transitioned in the storyline.

InternetBae: There are many trans actors who haven't transitioned and who don't "pass." There are many trans actors who are comfortable and able to play their parts pre-transition. The only reason Laverne Cox's brother played that part was because the producers wouldn't allow Laverne to do it. She knew what she was capable of but they as cis people decided that it would've been too hard and dysphoric for her.

Court Rochon there aren't many trans actors that are pre op, majority of trans people in media are a success story, they are very far into their transition and look very passable, because mainstream media is scared to represent the real truth, that a lot of trans women especially struggle looking like the ones that are very well showed off in the media, that they are being oppressed by the higher positions and don't fit into society's standards, because they are not what society is comfortable to associate with. They also avoid showing cis women that don't look like the ideal standard of what men has been made to believe a "real woman" is supposed to look like. The very few trans youtubers that are actually acknowledged and very popular have all had their surgeries done, like princessjoules, gigi or stef, because mainstream media is shallow as fuck. Who are these many trans actors that would play their pre transition part? I would love to hear about them, those MANY trans actors, when we barely have any, most trans people in history have been played by cis people, like brandon teena a trans man that was raped and murdered, being played by hillary swank or the movie danish girl about a trans woman not far into her transition, also played by a cis man, felicity huffman a cis woman played a trans role in transamerica, dallas buyers club, a cis man jared leto played the part of a trans woman in the 70's who also was pre op, all about my mother a movie which story has many trans characters, none of them played by an actual trans person, laurence anyways, trans woman played by cis male actor and why? Because the trans woman character in the movie had yet to transition. Transparent is a series where the lead role is supposedly a trans woman, but yet a popular cis male actor took the part of a trans character that had yet to transition as well. There are many many more examples and I yet have to find out about the "MANY" trans actors in media who would play their pre transition part, which I find also to be a absolutely absurd attempt of a portrayal, a trans woman fully transitioned that goes 40 steps backwards again deep into the past that hindered her living as her true self for so long and strips down to the bare minimum just to show of what's left of that past, if there is even anything left since she would be fully transitioned. I think this got nothing to do with a real authentic portrayal of a trans woman who hasn't done any transition at all, since we all started with nothing, in a body we could absolutely not identify with nor think of living a life as. I don't see the problem with a cis person playing that part, it would be hard to find a person who is trans and hasn't transitioned yet AND is an actor/actress AND would also be comfortable with playing that part. Scarlett Johansson is actually going to play the part of a trans man in a new movie, another cis woman. Where are the many trans actors that haven't transitioned? Where?

I’d rather see a talented actress play any role of any walk of life than an actual trans that doesn’t have the talent to act. People come strong against Hollywood for not casting various types of people but really let’s make people want to take acting serious or even want to be apart of the industry first so the level of talent can be raised. With Race many actors and actresses have played different races because having a non specific look can be good thing and showing the respect learning about the culture shows in the acting. Selena was played by Jlo who isn’t Mexican, la Bamba’s actor was mixed race, The Rock isnt Hawaiian but is playing King Kamehameha. If someone adapts the voice, the pain, the struggles of a trans I feel like they should play a trans role and a trans play a cis role. It’s all about telling a story. I think what happens is that when all these popular cis actors play trans characters, it limits the opportunities that actual trans people can get. Not many movies or shows are writing trans characters and when they do, the cis actors get them. Because all of this is happening it doesn't really feel as inclusive as it should be or as it claims to be. So cis ppl can play trans roles, yes, but so many cis ppl are already playing trans roles and there aren't any opportunities for actual trans ppl. I hope this cleared it up a bit.

Doesn't mean they hate the trans actor/actress personally, they just don't feel comfortable breaking their personal preference when it comes to a romance/sexual level, which they have a right not to do. A cis woman born without or with a non functioning uterus doesn't have the exact same experience as a cis woman with a fully functioning womb, they're still both women, same with a trans woman and a cis woman, both women, we all share the experience of being women. Our experiences don't have to align 100%, we share experiences most other cis women face, with some experiences specific to us, same with how tall cis women don't share that specific experience of being tall with other, smaller, cis women.

Basically they were trying to bring light to a double standard. Historically, trans people didn’t get to play trans roles or do the writing behind trans stories, so the only trans stories that got told were ones written by cisgender (ie not trans) people. It’s not inherently a bad thing to write a story about someone who’s different from you, but it’s led to a lot of inaccurate representation of trans lives and helped shape a culture that doesn’t understand or empathize with them. It’s also become sort of a rite of passage for cis men to play trans women to prove that they’re good actors, but that takes those roles from actual trans people who are repeatedly barred from having any control over how media portrays them. She’s saying, if they get to take trans roles to prove their skill, then at least let us have something so we can prove ours.
