Posi-lok 4x4 actuator demo

I got tired of dealing with vacuum lines on the 4x4 actuator of my pickup, so I bought the bullet and snagged a 4x4 posi-lock cable actuator. It seems to work as it was described. Overall, I’d say it’s worth it.

You have no idea how long I’ve been looking fit a video to show how to use this. Thanks bro

Anytime man! Sorry it’s kinda slapped together, but it’s pretty basic.

When you have the transfer case in 4 low and the front axle disengaged (2 low as you said in the video), does that mean that there is power going to the front differential still but not to the front axle shafts?
@uzifouryoutwosay
@uzifouryoutwosay Год назад
Yes, the driveshaft is spinning, but the differential is free to spin as well because the outer shaft isn’t connected

I've just recently installed this but it's binding up. Every few seconds you get a loud bang and the truck will shudder for it then bang again
@uzifouryoutwosay
@uzifouryoutwosay Год назад
So if you depress the button and rotate it counter clockwise you can increase the engagement of the shift collar, inversely if you rotate it counter clockwise you disengage it. I’ve found that the adjustment of the cable is critical to this thing functioning properly.

@@uzifouryoutwosay oh alrigtight thank God I had no idea you could adjust it like that I've been going underneath the truck and adjusting the nut that fastens the cable to the actuator housing

@@ryanduckworth1779 Hah! Well I’m glad I could help you. I’ll be honest with you, this system is only marginally more reliable than the vacuum. Frankly the real benefit is low 2WD

Yes, I tested this. You need to throw it into 4wd first. Sorry for the delayed response

Ok so what’s the reason for this?
@uzifouryoutwosay
@uzifouryoutwosay Год назад
Some people want more positive control over the engagement of the 4wd shift collar. If you’re asking about the video, as in what’s the point of it, the point is a first person view of a live demonstration of the product shown

@@uzifouryoutwosay so this takes place of the vacuum actuator? So when you shift the 4x4 lever you than engage the new actuator
@uzifouryoutwosay
@uzifouryoutwosay Год назад
Yup it replaces the vacuum diaphragm. Honestly though, I think that the functioning vacuum system is better than this unit. I’m generally underwhelmed wit it outside of me being able to use 2wd low to back trailers downhill with heavy loads

i installed one of those, and it was so frustrating when it just pulls off the cable. the whole red button pat just comes completely off the cable. are you saying you are engaging the actuator for front wheel drive and 4 wheel drive? im understanding that when you shift gears to 2L for example, it gears you down.. but what happens if you shift to 4H or 4L without pulling the actuator?
@uzifouryoutwosay
@uzifouryoutwosay 5 месяцев назад
When you pull the actuator towards you, it pulls the locking collar on the axle to engage the front axle for 4WD. If you pull the shift lever on the transfer case to either 4H or 4L without engaging the shift collar, the practical effect is 2H and 2L

@@uzifouryoutwosay got it. But it still doesn't make sense why the red button would completely pull away from the cable... it doesn't "pull" at all

@@uzifouryoutwosay the knob itself came off the cable.. my buddy and I couldn't figure out the effective attachment mechanism. It's just a female hole in the know that the cable inserts into, with no identifiable way of securing it inside the hole of the knob

Mine came with one of these, when i throw the floor lever into a gear and then pull the cable i get no lights or anything. My drive shaft isnt in currently is there a way to manually shift the t case to see if everything is working right? I had no idea this is what that was
@uzifouryoutwosay
@uzifouryoutwosay 3 года назад
So the T-case won’t effect the light coming on. There are two wires going down to the 4wd light switch, you can adjust the engagement of the posi-lok by rotating it clockwise and counter clockwise to get it where it should be. You can check if it’s working by attempting to rotate the pinion while engaged, if your pinion won’t move, the collar is either partially or completely engaged. Check the wires (held down by two phillips head screws) on the switch to see if theres a bad connection there as well.
@Aleasysn
@Aleasysn 3 года назад
@@uzifouryoutwosay thank you so much man, I’ll definitely look into it, the only wiring i saw is a sensor/plug that’s connected to where the diaphragm once was one of the wires is broken so that may be my issue but i will definitely try to rotate the pinion and see what it does i was wondering what the rotation was for
@uzifouryoutwosay
@uzifouryoutwosay 3 года назад
If one of those wires is broken, for sure that is a reason your light isn’t coming on. The Tcase actually just has a vacuum switch on it, no electronics, so there’s nothing to worry about there.
