Tips for danganronpa Cosplayers: try and mimic one of the characters sprites from the games. It would make for a great picture and it's technically a canon facial expression
I'm terrible at posing, and I was laughing at one point in this video because the costume I just did was exactly the "boring character" problem you mentioned, lol! As someone also not very creative or photogenic in "posed" shots, these suggestions were also enormously helpful for me with giving me better ideas of what to do. Thanks!
You can hold your (left) arm to your stomach and prop your (right) elbow on the hand of the left arm. While you do this, you can curl your (right) fingers. This can create a somewhat "annoyed" or "uptight" pose. I hope this makes sense and looks okay. >~
I can't do a relaxed smile no matter what I do. It's because of the positioning of my top teeth, I can't even close my mouth... The struggle for me is very real
A unamused look XD since he seems to have the same strider look as Dirk 1st appearance in the comic so just an unamused but not like you didn't want to a picture.
Thanks algoritm for blowing this video up wow, i remember searching hard for cosplay poses and I only knew lolita pose videos. I'm surprised that only now RU-vid recommends it to me when i didn't reall needed it right now.
The whole video, I was trying to figure out who you looked like...you definitely look like Jennifer Lawrence lol. Also, I'm terrible at posing so this was super helpful! I love shooting with photographers like you who know how to direct.
LOVED this video! I rarely comment on videos but thanks so much for posting this coz I didn't have a clue!! I'd love some tips on Disney Princess posing please :)
I'd love if a person like you took Cosplay pictures of me 🥺 someone who talks to me, says what I should be doing, how I look in the camera and everything. But here in Germany most people just want to take a picture as quickly as possible and leave
At my next con, I will be Uta (Tokyo Ghoul), Levi Ackerman/Heichou (Attack on Titan), and Yuri Plisetsky (Yuri on Ice), and all of them are pretty badass. This will be pretty challenging for me since I'm naturally very "cute" and short.
My dad is a wedding photographer so I pretty much had to learn how to pose for pictures at a young age haha. All your tips are on point and even helped me. I have anxiety so when a camera is shoved in front of me I just kind of forget I'm trying to be ic and act like myself x.x
I know this is an older video, but I really do appreciate this. Been starting to do a lot more cosplay photography and so many of my models get a bit lost on posing, so its great to have some more ideas to help them out with.
I have a question *3*!!! I'm cosplaying Ciel Phantomhive soon, and he's the type of serious,I tthink a bit of cocky kind off character. Do you have any tips maybe?
Try a pouty or apathetic facial expression. For the stance, stand with your feet about shoulder width apart. You can place one hand on your cane (if you include that in your cosplay) and the other on your hip or by your side. It might help to Google Ciel cosplayers and see how they posed. I hope this helped :3 (PS Black Butler is amazing!!!)
I am going to be cosplaying a male character. His name is Sollux Captor from a web comic called Homestuck. I can't really think of a pose for him. (I doubt I'll get asked for a picture though but just incase) You're also very pretty and your very helpful!
Well, sol is usually floating around XD maybe try using the jump method? I cosplay Karkat XD and John , the jump method would be great for sol tho , maybe add some cool effects in editing with the blue and red eyes and stuff :3
I am a pose Freak when it comes to cosplay, whether I am cosplaying or i am taking a picture of a cosplayer. And i must say, you executed this video VERY nicely. I couldnt agree more with you pov. Well Done! //claps
Great tips. I'm not much of a photographer myself, much more used to being in front of the camera. I see a lot of Cosplayers that just don't seem to know what to do with themselves. This is a great tut. Super clear and very easy to follow. Awesome tips for would be models. This is getting shared. :D
I cosplayed as Hinata and the problem I had was with the pose. I only had two poses planned, one badass and one where you put your index fingers together. I had a kunai as a weapon and I ended up with similar pictures with everyone. Some people said that because of that one pose it almost looked photoshopped. How can anyone pose as a character like Hinata?? It's impossible!!
i know this is an old comment but hinata does have some poses where shes attacking try and look up pictures of that and try to practice those poses so you have an idea of what to do when getting a pic taken. Also for nearly an cosplay you can look up pics from the show manga comics or whatever your charecter is from and find images of what that charecter does. also if you see images you don't like of your cosplay think of what you'd like to change about it and think of a new pose from that.
I'm getting ready for my first convention in years and like...WE HAVE LIKE HAD NO CLUE we just default to standing there and smiling so yeah. This is going to help for sure! Thank you so much.
Thank's a lot for your advices. I'm photographer and i shoot most of the time with the people who don't know how to pose. And your video will help me to direct the people in the good way for the shoothing! ^^
Well this is definitely a late response to say the least! But hopefully it'll help for future cosplaying! When you're standing and taking pictures, think shy. What do people do when they're shy? They kind of look down, put their arms in front of them, things of that nature. Maybe you could try looking down at your bear (assuming you have one) and just stand straight at the camera (kind of like this: www.deviantart.com/art/Cosplay-APH-Canada-285255878 ) If you can't really pose standing, try sitting cross legged and hugging your bear/letting it rest on your lap. Do kind of a slight smile, eyebrows up. Hope this helps! :)
This is perfect! I mainly cosplay Vocaloids, and it is very hard to pose because if you're familiar with Vocaloid, you know the characters don't have much personality.
I really liked your video, it's really helpfull! This is one thing that always get on my nerves, on people cosplay a cute character with no cute poses or a serious character with cute poses. And more, no feeling to it! Looks like they are posing because they need to, not because they want to. Or sometimes when they have the same expression to different characters. I think your video made people to think a little or to express more.
Love it!! :D Thanks!! I have a suggestion: poses for crossplay. Most of my female friends crossplay and we often try not to look too cute or pose like a girl, it's kinda hard sometimes
I'm going to an anime convention this weekend, and I because there will most likely be photoshoots, I 'm glad I found this video. It was really helpful. ^^ Thank you for making this video. ;)
i am not a cosplayer but photographer but this video was useful for me, cause it helps to direct cosplayers during a shoot, for example which kind of poses the can do. Will check out your other videos as well and i subscribed now :)
I wish I could just carry you around in my pocket! I worked really hard on my Tomoyo (Clannad) cosplay this year, and it looked really, REALLY good. But my poses ruined it. I hadn't practiced any, since I didn't expect to be so famous. The first few times I as asked for a photo, I did the "cute-sy asian" poses. If you know Tomoyo, this is definitely not her kind of pose, so it ruined my costume. My friend told me, so I tried different ones, and they all felt weird and AGAIN ruined my cosplay. The video helped me a lot. Thank you!
Thank you for the video this really helped! I'm being a character that flies at the next convention so the jumping part was really helpful. I can never get my jumps to look right so hopefully this will help.
The double chin struggle is real lol. I laughed when you said "Even 80 pound people I know" because I'm 80 pounds and can confirm that if you look down enough, even with my long neck, you're gonna get a double chin. Thanks for this video, I'm going to be doing some shoots in less than 2 months, I did some before but I always need tips! I pretty much have posing down but i cannot, for the life of me, do angry old Eren Jaeger any justice. especially people like to do his "biting hand" pose but every time i do it like them it looks like I have buck teeth XD Which i don't, I have pretty decent front teeth actually lol.
I'm gonna be cosplaying reaper sans next year and posing is like my biggest problem really Cause i'm gonna have a huge ass scythe that'll probably end up being taller than me So it's like "what do i do with it? do i sit it on the floor? do i hold it up a bit? i could rest it on my shoulder????"
My charater is tricky sents its Jade Harley from Homestuck by Andrew hussie on the website Ms Paint Adventures *thats a mouth full* but she is witch of space and controlls planets. She has a rifle and sents im going to AFO soon in augest and sents im so young *11* how should I pose for her? Shes ambishous. And athustic! Always cheering her server players up!
I suggest that you should do a sort of cute pose unless you are trying to seem a lot more serious (btw I'm so glad I'm not the only 11 year old who likes homestuck)
dont carry the planets AND the gun at the same time Ive been with a Jade and theres too much stuff to carry (although its been years so you probably know by now :p )
Can you do a video on how to pose your legs? I can never figure out how to have my legs when I'm doing photoshoots and they tend to look awkward. And also a video on posing while sitting / lying down?
Wow this was incredibly helpful! Thanks so much for the tips. I’m cosplaying todoroki though so it’s hard to figure out what emotion to use but I think I’m getting it.
I too have double chin syndrome, didn't think it would be mentioned, thanks so much. I often have problems with pressure, like someone asking me a photo and trying to fix my pose super fast not to delay them. Serious expressions I also have problems with, I have kinda a cute face, so I often look like a cute character being serious like it's a joke, like pouting with cross eyes when I'm not.
great video! would love to see a video where you pose a group of cosplayers. i know that's a loaded request because that pose can vary greatly depending on the type of group cosplay, the number of cosplay, and they location you're working with. nevertheless, would be interested to see how you would do it.
We have two people posing here: Cosplay Posing 102: Posing With Another Person But larger group posing is something we definitely would like to do in the future! We just have to find a time when we can wrangle some willing friends together :D
Thank you so much for the tips! I am currently preparing for Anime Expo. Last year I was asked for a picture and I looked like a deer in the headlights. D: Thanks again!
Odd question but... how would you pose with a potato? xD that sounded less weird in my head. I'm going to be doing an Attack on Titan cosplay as Sasha Brauss/Blouse, and I have no idea how to pose for pictures with food in hand>~
Thanks I'll try this. I'm so akward with posing and hate smiling. Like when I cosplayed Ciel Phantomhive I didn't know how to pose. This year I'm going Yoko (gurren lagann) and Aoba (dmmd) so need to look at and practice poses
this video was extremely helpful, thank you so much! do you think you'd be able to make a video that has poses for when your cosplaying with other people?
Thanks for your helpful video. I need your expertise on posing as characters such as Esmeralda (with my tambourine), Batgirl (with my baterang), and soon I will be Elsa (with my very own suspended snowflake lol). Some of my concerns are double chin and posing aestheticly as I am curvy and full-figured. Please make a video for those of us who have a little more to love.
Protip: If part of your cosplay drags on the ground, try to be walking around with a friend, that way when someone asks for your picture, your "handler" can do things like straighten out your train, and they can also make sure no one else steps on it.
I have dark skin and I can't really choose any popular characters because most of them have fair skin. Does anyone know any characters that look fine with tan skin?
