CALCANEOUS AP:
Patient Positioning
Lying on your back or sitting on the table with your leg fully extended.
Position of the Party:
• Center and align the ankle joint in relation to the RC and the portion of the RI being
exposed.
• Dorsiflex the foot so that the plantar surface is almost perpendicular to the RI.
RC:
• Direct the RC to the base of the third metatarsal to emerge in one level immediately
distal to the lateral malleolus.
• Angle the RC head 40° from the long axis of the foot (which should also be 40° from the
vertical plane if the long axis of the foot is perpendicular to the RI)

CALCÂNEO PROFILE:
Patient Positioning:
In lateral decubitus, with the affected side down. Place a pillow under the patient's head.
Bend affected limb 45°; position the opposite leg behind the injured one.
Position of the Party:
• Center the calcaneus in relation to the RC and to the uncovered portion of the RI, with the long axis of the foot
parallel to the RI plan.
• Place a support under the knee and leg as needed and position the plantar surface
perpendicular to the RI.
• Position the ankle and foot for a true profile view, which places the lateral malleolus
approximately 1 cm posterior to the medial malleolus.
• Dorsiflex the foot so that the plantar surface is at a right angle to the
lower member.
RC:
• RC perpendicular to the RI, directed to a point, 2.5 cm (1 inch), inferior to the malleolus
medial.
