ROUTINE: AP AND PROFILE.
------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------
►AP:
♦ Patient Positioning:
X-ray the patient in an upright or supine position. (The upright position can be more
comfortable for the patient.) The posterior surface of the shoulder should be in direct contact with the table
or RI, without chest rotation. (Rotation towards the affected side places the scapula in a
more reliable posterior position, but this also results in greater overlap with the rail
costal.)
♦ Position of the Party:
• Position the patient so that the middle portion of the scapula is centered on the CR.
• Fit the chassis to the center of the RC. The top of the RI should be approximately 5 cm above the shoulder, and
the lateral margin of the RI should be approximately 5 cm from the lateral margin of the grating
costal.
• Lightly abduct the arm 90° and supinate the hand. (Abduction moves the scapula laterally to
further away from the thoracic structures.)
♦RC:
• CR perpendicular to the middle portion of the scapula, 5 cm below the coracoid process, or at the level of the
axillary region approximately 5 cm medial from the patient's lateral margin.
------------------------------------------------- --------------------
►PROFILE:
♦ Patient Positioning:
X-ray the patient in an upright or supine position. (The upright position can be more
comfortable for the patient.) Position the patient facing the RI in an oblique position
previous.
♦Party Position:
• Ask the patient to cross their arm in front of their torso to grasp the opposite shoulder. this position
demonstrates well the body of the scapula.
or
• Ask the patient to lower the affected arm, flex the elbow and partially place the arm
abductee behind the lower back or let it hang to the side. This position best demonstrates the
acromion and the coracoid process
• Palpate the superior angle of the scapula and the AC joint. Rotate the patient until a line
imaginary between the two points is perpendicular to the RI; this results in a lateral positioning
of the body of the scapula. The position of the humerus (down and to the side or up along the region
chest) influences the degree of rotation required. If the arm is across the chest,
a smaller rotation is required. (The posterior surface of the body of the scapula should be
perpendicular to the RI.)
• Align the patient to center the medial margin of the scapula to the CR and IR.
♦RC:
• CR in the middle of the medial margin of the scapula
♦DFOFI: 1m
♦RI: 18x24 or 24x30 (Longitudinal)
