*TOWNE METHOD (AP AXIAL)
► Patient Positioning:
Remove all metal or plastic objects from the patient's head and neck. perform the
radiograph with the patient in the standing or supine position.
►Party Position:
• Press the chin, bringing the LOM perpendicular to the RI. For patients unable to
flex the neck to this measurement, align the LIOM perpendicular to the RI. put support
radiolucent under the head, if necessary (see Note).
• Align the PSM to the RC and the midline of the grid or surface of the imaging device.
• Make sure there is no rotation or tilt of the head.
• Ensure that the apex of the skull is within the collimation field.
► RC:
• Angle of RC at 30° caudal to LOM or 37° caudal to LIOM (see Note).
• Center the PSM 6.5 cm above the glabella to pass through the occipital foramen at the base level
of the occiput.
• Centralize the RI to the projected RC.
