English is not my native language because I am a German girl, so I prepared my script and translated it. I hope I pronounce everything correctly.
My goal for the challenge when I started at the beginning of May was to go from 74 kg (160 pounds) to 55 kg (121 pounds) and lose 7 to 10% body fat. I thought it was realistic to lose almost 20 kg (44 Pfund) in 5 months. But I forgot that my body is different. I have never had a thyroid since birth. I lost 6.35 kg (14 pounds) and 3% body fat.
This time I didn't want to work against my body because I had already put it through enough with all my binge eating. This time I wanted to take a sustainable approach and I think you can see from the photos that a lot has happened. The measurements prove that I have lost more than 50 cm in total, if you add up my neck, chest, waist, stomach, hips, arms and legs. This taught me how meaningless the scale actually is and I decided to place more value on the non-scalable victories. I see many things that have changed positively for me in the last 19 weeks:
The most important thing: I have overcome my eating disorder, can finally eat with pleasure and no longer have to think about food and losing weight all day long.
I have learned a lot of new things about food and nutrition. This has given me a full and satisfied feeling all day long.
I used to be unable to cook and now I would almost say I can cook and I enjoy it.
I prepare food consciously and mindfully and eat it mindfully. I no longer gorge myself like a greedy wolf.
I have improved my mindset. I think it was pretty good before because I am a positive, optimistic person, but this time I persevered and did not give up.
Before I was often tired and now I feel fit and alert.
Because I was so tired, my apartment was a mess. I also had trouble organizing myself and put off unpleasant things, especially paperwork. All of that has improved.
I had pain in various parts of my body: knees, ankles, elbows. Now I have NO pain.
I have become much more flexible.
My balance has improved; most of the time anyway.
I have more strength in my arms.
My stamina has improved. I notice this because I now run 4 to 5 km in an hour instead of just 3.
My posture in everyday life is much better. I stand more upright.
I dared to post videos of myself, even though I generally don't feel comfortable with videos of myself. I even danced and sang for you in the Facebook group.
I have met a lot of really nice people here. And because of communicating with them, I have improved my English. I still haven't finished DDP's books, but I'm making good progress, I only have to look up 2-3 words per page.
Through all the posts on Facebook, I've rediscovered my love of writing. I've already had a few publications in magazines and will have more again.
I've also managed to accept gifts, for example so much praise and encouragement from the many lovely people in the Facebook group.
It's also given me a lot to give out praise and recognition generously.
DDP has enriched my life a lot. Thank you for that!
I'm not yet where I want to be with my body and my yoga poses, but I have a good feeling and I've decided to stand in front of a class myself and teach yoga one day.
