Possible Reasons Why My Chayote Plants are Dying 

Hi! If your chayote is growing mostly indroor, you can start acclimatizing your chayote sprout outside on a deck or porch near your house or on the edge of the woods so as not to shock it. Do this for a couple of weeks. If you plant it outside right away when it's hot outside it will scorch the leaves and tendrils and it could die. Bring them in and out until it's safe to plant outside. First week of May should be safe to plant chayote in the ground. You may or may not get chayotes this year, but you can eat the young tips when the plant has grown. It's part of pruning. If you cover mulch on the base in the Fall, next year it can grow back and you might get chayote fruits next year. I hope this helps.
