1st step may 2021- understand pronunciation right in the beginning, hard to fix afterwards 2nd step- may 2021- grammar, used Annie Hemingway's "Complete French Grammar" book + youtube videos 3rd step- may 2021- 3 minute french udemy course by Kieran Ball. He has ~eight other courses, she bought most of them. 4th step- june 2021- realised not moving in right direction, found Loredane Nolent on italki- intensive grammar classes, 5 classes per week, she pushed her, gave her homework. Lasted 2-3 months. 5th step- sept 2021- took speaking classes with another italki teacher (Feriel) so she could speak properly. 2 classes per week. 6th step- sept 2021- She decided to follow Edito to track performance 7th step- sept 2021- she watched YT channels to practice listening. 8th step- Dec 2021- after ~6 months of the above, she started doing TEF Canada specific preparation (Mock Tests on Prep My Future and TEF Academy). Got an Italki teacher to check her written essays 9th step- Jan 2021- did TEF Canada exam (first attempt). Got B2+ in speaking, reading. C1 Listening. Writing didnt do too well. Knew she needed to focus her energy there next time. 10th step- did more writing classes with Feriel (speaking + writing). Initially studied 4-5 h a day, later 8-10 h a day. Tips: - be consistent. MUST do sth on regular basis. - find someone to guide you through (ideally teacher well-versed with TEF exam structure) - dont let failure stop you
Very sensible and useful info. I myself have been studying for 7 months but not putting as many hours. My first attempt also helped me know where i stand. Hope for the best for second attempt
Usually, it motivate us when we go through such videos. But the problems come when I strat any thing new I becomes tired and feel overburden then suddenly I used to keep all my passion on side and enjoy my peaceful sleep 😴
This video has been so far the best information i’ve received about learning french. Thanks a ton. And i only 7 months ahead of me to master the language.
Hi, thank you for giving us hopes. Could you please tell me the exact timelines you started French language as a beginner and in which month you had cleared TEF with C1. I understand it differs per person but just to get an idea :) thank you!
Hey, I started learning as a complete beginner end of May 2021 and cleared the exam with C1 in June 2022.. so 13 months to be specific.. I worked on french as a priority with min 4-5 hours of effort per day and that’s how I could do it in a year. So yes, it depends on how much time we spend and how consistent we can be, which depends on personal circumstances! All the best :)
Bonjour Tanu, Many Congratulations on passing your exam in a short time. You really seemed to have worked very hard. Thank you for the info about your teachers and Udemy course. May I ask which RU-vid channels you would recommend ? Thanks again in advance and my best wishes for your endeavours.
Bonjour Sachin! Thanks a lot for kind words 🙏 In my first 6 months study journey video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OirHfgW294g.html, I’ve shared some resources and my fav RU-vid channel that you may try. Hope you find it useful!
@@tanusharma01 Bonjour Tanu and you are very welcome. Thanks a lot for the link to your other video. If you could, What would you say is the one resource to learn French pronunciations ? Of everything French, I find them the hardest. Merci .
Hello Tanu, congratulations and also thank you for sharing. I'm already going to the app and I don't understand what to choose (get the app or get the app without copying)
5 classes a week on italki for months, then 2 classes a week later on, then writing classes with a tutor...all this would add up to a considerable expense, no?
Hi, I am planning to take a French course at Alliance Française de Bangalore. Are the faculty members there good? Are they professionals? Please share your insights on this. Which institute is good for DELF and DALF?
thanks for the amazing video. Maam i have a small question. you said that you started with the pronumciation first. what were the resources that you used in the very start for your pronunciation?
Hi, I am planning to take a French course at Alliance Française de Bangalore. Are the faculty members there good? Are they professionals? Please share your insights on this. Which institute is good for DELF and DALF?
hello maam, by this you mean 1 year only to prepaire for tef exam or 1 year in total for leanring french and prepairing for tef exam and giving it as well all in that 1 year.
On iTalki you have to take an intro lesson from an instructor and afterwards his/her fee structure is visible. The intro lesson is 30 minutes, so you can probably count on the hourly rate to be twice as much as the intro lesson -- but not always.
Hi Himadri, I am learning French too. Today is my last day of A2. Wrote DELF A2 exam last month and got a decent score. You could get in touch with me and I'd love to help you.
Many Congratulations on your ITA. I have also started my French Language skills as a beginner. I have started classes already, but I want to build my listening skills as a beginner. Please guide me through how I can start listening among other modules.
Thank you Sukhvir! You can watch my “first 6 months french learning” video in which I have shared some beginner friendly RU-vid channels which I found very helpful. Apart from that I would suggest to keep listening to your fav channel in french, even if you’re not able to understand much.. you will get there if you train your ears regularly. All the best!!
Hello! I'm Reja from Bangladesh. I know nothing in french but I would like to get CLB 7 in french. If I try hard everyday how much time is needed to get this point?
4-5 hrs and even more on weekends! This can take you to attempt CLB 7 in 1 year and then see if you need a couple of more months but it is always good to set a timeframe 👍
I have a question. You used to send everything you write and speaking samples to your teacher to get it check. It was included in our lesson fee? Can we send as much writing and speaking samples to our teacher to get them checked?
Attestation no: “xxxxxxxx - xxxxxxxx” which you will find on the bottom left side of your result. You will have to add these two numbers in two separate rows in express entry
Quick Question - I am currently in Canada and my CRS score is 501, I just want to give TEF exam to get some bonus points, I am not aiming for the 50 points, I just want around 5 - 10 extra points to further boost my score. How much time do you think I need to achieve my goal. I have CLB 10 in IELTS but I need to start French from scratch. Thank you so much for your informative video, it was really helpful.
You’re already sitting at an impressive score! You’ll need B1/B2 to get upto 10 points in TEF. Timeline is very subjective and depends on the time spent on the language, study material, etc. You can start with 6-8 months target.. spend first 5-6 months to immerse yourself in the language and then slowly start attempting the mock tests. All the best!
Duolingo is a good tool to get started with the language but not enough for exam prep. You can watch my videos on first 6-months learning journey, that may help to plan your study pathway or get in touch if you need my help with that. All the best
@@tanusharma01 Thanks Tanu for your reply( I watched that)… I was just confused as IRCC’s official processing times states around 26 months for EE.. and people say that they are not accepting outland applicants after Covid.. so what’s the exact situation?
@@mihirbhandari8714 hey, that info must be a bit outdated. PR processing time has always been 6-12 months. EE draws were on hold for about 2 years amid covid but they were resumed in mid 2022. There have been a lot of draws (almost monthly) since then and thousands of immigrants have been invited :)
Hello Tanu, I want to learn tef. I have basic understand of french till A2 level. I want to learn from the teachers you mentioned. What course did you take. monthly, yearly ? Can you please suggest
Hi Tanu, I have 1 immigration-related question. I did the TCF test and got the result in PDF. I also applied for PR and submitted that same PDF I received from the center. The Center said they do not issue hard copies but the immigration officer requested the original. I'd be grateful if you could advise on it. Also, do you need to sign the test result? Please let me know.
Results for both, TEF and TCF are received via email and are accepted for immigration application. In case they’ve a concern, it would be good to get it stamped by the exam centre and self attest is as well.
Salut Tanu! Firstly, thank you for the very informative video on the much-required subject on exam. My query is; that I have CRS of 475 with Express entry profile but looking to boost my score around 500 by giving TEF exam. I have learnt till A2-level; in that case how many points one can score in TEF at A2 stage or to what level do I need to learn to get only 20-25 extra CRS points? Merci d'avance!
Hey, thank you! Your score is already really good but yes French can give you a last push to get closer to ITA, looking at the CRS cut-off these days. In French, B2 can give you ~10 points and if you score B2+ in all sections you will get 12 points (3 points in each section) + 50 bonus points. So 62 points in total.
@@tanusharma01 Thank you so much Tanu!...this is so encouraging!... Can I please connect with you for a discussion with a few queries for express entry {very basic} and also for quick preparation of TEF. Please suggest and provide the details to connect with you!
Hii I am doing "Complete French Grammar" and other books recommended by you for my grammar, still do you feel it's good to join the grammar course with a teacher or will I be okay for grammar with these books, as I also got answers key to some of the books you mentioned?
It’s a personal choice. If you’re motivated enough to complete grammar on your own, then no need to take classes( these resources are more than enough). Classes help to stay disciplined and progress well, that’s why worked really well for me bcoz I found grammar really boring to do on my own
I believe I'm in a position where I can get a high enough CRS score if I get C1 in reading and rest of the sections wouldn't matter. Do you think that's possible to do with just the ~16 courses by Kieran Ball? Thanks!
Kieran Ball’s course is very good to learn the language but is not enough for exam prep. Please leverage other resources for TEF/TCF prep that I’ve explained in my videos.
Hey Habib, it depends on you’re at what stage of your preparation but if I could give one broad advice that would be to treat each section equally and never underestimate any. At least a month before the exam, try to cover all 4 sections each day if possible, even if you have only 30 mins for the last section lined up for the day. Let me know if you have any specific question, will try my best to help. Good luck for the exam!!
I’ve shared a lot of practice material in my videos for each module of TEF. Apart from that, fb group is a good place to find latest practice material. It’s actually a gold mine so I highly recommend checking it out.
@@tanusharma01 Thanks profusely! Please suggest me one more thing; I have completed my coaching classes till A2, and now I have decided to study further on my own, so the grammer book which you shared; does it have B1 B2 and high level grammer topics? And please also suggest me which edito book should I go for: A1 A2 or only A2 can work?
@@anaahat yes, French complete grammar by Annie has grammar till advance level. I would suggest start with Edito A1 and probably you would be able to do it at a faster pace but don’t skip it bcoz you’ll find a lot of useful vocab on variety on topics along with a revision on grammar.
Hi Tanu, what are some of the practice test materials that you used? I saw you listed some but could you please provide the name/link of all of the ones you used? Thank you very much, I have begun this journey and I am so glad someone is successful in this journey :)
You’ll find some resources in the description section of this video and another video on my journey - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OirHfgW294g.html. For TEF exam specific practice material please feel to check out the description section of a video I’ve created on each module - listening, reading, writing and speaking. All the best 👍
@@tanusharma01 Another quick question, did you only take the TEF or did you also take the TCF as well? If you have taken both, which one do you recommend for someone who's learning French from scratch?
@@calvinm273 hi, my friend took both the exams and I took his interview on the same. You can find it here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hJ3uOzVc4ME.html
First of All Congratulations 🎉 to You And why Is TCF important I don’t know much about it And what is the fees and exam booking online or offline Can we learn the language from RU-vid or Any app Please reply me
TCF or TEF exams can get you extra scores for canada immigration purpose. Will share more details on their fees, etc. in a video. For learning french, RU-vid (ex. learn with Alexa), french courses on Udemy, (ex. 3 minutes french by Kieran ball), etc. can be a good starting point
Thank you! 4-5 hrs of daily effort is required and then a few months before the exam 7-8 hrs of effort would be required. This is how much effort I had to put in to clear the exam within a year but everyone is different so see what works for you.
