In the conclusion of his interview with fellow director Mick Garris, John Carpenter discusses their collaboration on the hit anthology series MASTERS OF HORROR, how a director plans his work, the nature of good and evil in his films, gratuitous violence, CGI effects, sequels and remakes, how being a father has changed him, his dream projects, the state of modern horror, and current filmmakers he admires.

I would love to sit down and sink a few pints with John he's so laid back and I agree with him about Halloween there was no more story to tell but the studio couldn't give a damn and will churn out these inferior sequels for eternity.

Carpenter should write a story for a video game, and have a solid indie game dev make it with him.

I would love to see John make another movie or 2. He is far too talented to have his talent go to waste. But fair enough he is getting on and wants to sit and watch basketball and play video games. I don't blame him.

Studios don't want to give money to a guy they can't control or who has a valid opinion. They can control a director when he/she is starting out because they're eager. A 20/30 something year old studio guy doesn't want to hear Carpenter or Romero's opinion even though they know what they're talking about -- in fact, because they know what they're talking about. The studio has the money, they want a product, and they want control. That's what the legends are up against and why you don't hear from them much.

I have fear in this age of cancel culture. The fear is that it's going to affect the creativity of artiest, directors, and actors.

I think it all depends on how the topic at hand is being executed creatively. If a sensitive subject is conveyed in a mean spirited way for the sake of being mean spirited without any lesson to teach then what's the point of putting it on film? If it's a sensitive subject conveyed in a mean spirited way with a teachable moment, then there are ways to film it without being dragged by the audience. It's all comes down to the execution.
