how do these individuals get to these positions. Government workings must change

Party men/women kow-towing to whoever is above them. "This man/woman is good, he/she agrees with everything I say, he/she should br on the board". (Tacit: So there is always someone agreeing with me and keeping my life easy.) Anybody who does not give full support to every idea, no matter how madcap, will get nowhere.

We always send out boilerplate letters, says the Minister, that way we don’t get mixed messages, or inconvenient truths…no wonder this scandal just keeps rolling along.

We vote for our MPs or rather for a party - or at times against a party - even if its candidate for our constituency is appalling. It seems obvious most candidates have no training in anything related to government, and what they are qualified for is obeying the orders, no matter how stupid, of their party leader and voting as ordered no matter what they think of the subject. It's all a mess.

Shocking that it seems ministers and I assume civil servants, also lawyers and judges, had no understanding of software. Suppose it hadn't been Judge Fraser but some ignorant judge in charge of the case brought by the SPMs vs the Post Office. Judgement would have been given IMO for sure in favour of PO. No wonder they were desperate to make Fraser recuse himself - I imagine PO was sure they win as usual - and thank heaven Fraser refused.

Seven hours of waffle and insight into the uselessness of Minister's and MP's - "not my responsibility Guvnor although I was highly paid to do the job". Too many bureaucrats running of the Post Office and living off the backs of those buying stamps and paying for parcels. I do believe there were more Chief Executives and their support teams than there are postmen in the country. I would rather suspect nothing has changed nor have "lessons been learned".

its amazing what one can do by submitted false information and every one believes what was being told by the PO was true even to Bis and others. certain individual must go to jail.

This will go on forever. To my mind Stage 1 is full re-payment in 28 days back to the allegation date with interest at the statuary rates as applicable, and all legal fees and VAT paid thereon to date. Then payment to the executors of those who have since died and then those whose health is poor as a result. Any damages awarded paid within 28 days of the Inquiry ending. Then full recovery from all the directors and POL staff bonuses including those who quit because the heat was getting too much and Inquiry awards settled with 12 months. Top Jujitsu man told the Inquiry that they accept to pay a share of any damages. Finito

postmasters should be employees not agents to POL

Many were - civil servants and many fired for Jujitsu related offences. Now they might claim for wrongful dismissal similar to the SPMs etc

I had a boss who had the same hand manners. He was a self-centered oik.

The comments have saved me wasting more time listening to yet another shower of incompetent MPs pretending to be ignorant of the goings on within POL!! Thanks..

And why on earth would a postmaster know the capital of Chile, and does it matter

My view too. And why weren't civil servants telling thees ministers of PO issues? Too many briefs for civil servants? Or not bothered? Will some relevant civil servants be questioned by this Inquiry? Ministers need to insist on more info.

It sounds as if the country is governed by civil servants not parliament, perhaps the civil servants should be cleared out and parliament take back control. The House of Lords should be replaced by specialists in the significant areas of IT, science, police, prisons, army navy airforce etc & the House of Commons represented by the average person not these farcical political parties trade unions etc with their nod nod wink wink job for the boys attitudes ending up with disgusting people like b. Johnson
