Just had hip replacement 3days ago I started with some of those exercises in the hospital and at home. So pleased I've found you on RU-vid. I will continue with the other exercises 1-4 weeks. Thank you
Hello sir, I hope you are doing well. I had the same procedure of hip replacement a week ago at Max Hopital in Delhi India, seeing your comments made me enquire you about how you feel after healing. I
How many times a day should i do these exercises? i have been doing them twice a day since coming home from the hospital and my hip and leg are already stronger. i had a right total hip replacement on 9-23-16. thank you for posting this great video!
Hello, I just had a total right hip replacement yesterday 4-20-22. This is the next morning I am Writing this and I am in excruciating pain after surgery yesterday. Are these exercises something to start while in pain. Or within the next days start? Allso if I could be given any advice please and thank you .!
@@dmo_lsu you shouldn’t do physio for at least a week post op. I was in way too much pain to begin my PT till two weeks post op. Hope you’re feeling better
Thank you for your nice and very very helpful video. I have undergone neck (head) of femur surgery three months back. I am doing some of your exercises, not all (as those standing exercises). My physiotherapist did not yet start those. Should I start those? Will there be any harm if I do those on my own?
Thank you so much for these exercises and the information you have given!!!! I just had a total hip replacement 4-20-22 and this is helping me be more mobile so much faster and allso can do these on my own .
@@samanthagonzalez9857 had mine on 8-17-22. Cannot believe how incredibly painful a procedure it is. Makes me wanna really take care of my left hip. It’s the only one left. 😅 I do not wanna experience this kind of pain ever again!
@@hoosierbaddy3052 wow mine didn't hurt at all I stopped pain medication on the 3rd day! I get my left hip done the 14th of this month in a few days I can't wait 🙌 what approach did you get ?
+Horatio Huffnagel In a posterior surgical approach,No flexion more than 90 degrees with adduction past midline and internal rotation. In anterior approach, avoid extension of leg or bending back or lying on your tummy. Usually these are the precautions, but sometimes doctors say no abduction in some cases.
They have to be performed actively so that the muscles are strengthened, and if the muscles are not strong enough to do any of the exercises, you ask for someone to help you with them by applying some of their own strength to your movement. I am a physical therapist, so I am not making this up

Today is 6th post of day of THR on lt side of my mother and implant is non.cemented please guide me should she started exercise or which exercise should b done
Exactly what I was thinking. Didn't mention how many reps and sets to start with and when to add sets. I have a masters in Kinesiology , a trainer 24 years, and owned my own facility. I went back and replayed the beginning again in case I had missed it. The information for exercises is well done. Explains the movement, body placements , things you should not feel etc. This is not my first replacement so I have an idea but that little bit of information that would have taken zero extra time because after 3 replacements and 3 spine surgeries I now edit. lol. Maybe Heartland could add the information down in the description?
FridayNightGlory I imagine it would be what you are comfortable with. You should have been given instructions upon leaving hospital from the physiology department as to how long per day you should exercise? I was advised 20minutes of exercises very similar to these. I broke the femoral neck on my right hip and also my pelvis. I didn’t have a replacement; I was ‘young’ (17) & I would ‘heal fine’...10 years of constant pain later - here I am. Starting at the beginning again.
I wonder if I can do these exercises also with my broken femur and broken hip. I took now physio and accupuncture and it hurts more than before. Drives me mad, my operation was 2 years ago and I was 9 months on crutches. The first year was good but this year it is sometimes unbearable..
Lilianinafrica; this is three years later. But, I hope your hip situation has improved. I’m week three post op. And still trying to manage the excruciating pain. Thankfully my surgeon hasn’t been stingy with the narcotics. Yep, I’m still taking oxycodone. I’ve never experienced pain this intense ever! And I’ve had some painful surgeries. Intestinal herniation that required a one week stay in hospital. Recently had kidney stone removal surgery. Still not as painful as this THR.
@@hoosierbaddy3052 sorry, to hear you have pain. My pain didn't go away and I went for an opinion from another surgeon and he looked at the X-ray and wasn't happy with it and on top my leg was a bit shorter but he didn't critizised the former operation but recommended a new one. That left me quite distraught and I didn't have the guts to undergo a new op. After some months I remembered that I went in 2013 to a wellknown surgeon because I had terrible sciatic pains and he recommended a hip replacement but I didn't listen to him. I thought, hip replacement is for very old people, how wrong I was. I looked through my notebook of 2013 and found his name, made a booking for an X-ray and he examined it and shook his head and said, they should have done it different, I made an appointment with him and had a revision op and was out on the 3rd day, walked one week with a crutch and never looked back. That was September 2020 and now my other hip hurts and it scares me to have another devastating fall and as a prevention I booked end of this month and hopefully everything will be alright. I let you know.
I've watched several videos about dos & don'ts after hip replacement surgery but none mention the approximate interval required for bed rest after surgery before the patient can start physical therapy. People who have gone through this surgery please reply sharing information regarding this matter
Hlw sir/mam...it's totally depends on which approach is taking during surgery....if we tallk about hip surgery...if it is cemented we can start physiotherapy with in 24 hr. Nd we also initiate standing....but if surgery is uncement...then wit fir 3-4 weeks...only ankle toe pump physiotherapist suggest.....and the exercises regime totally depends on your therapist...what they want to achieve in patient.... Thanku☺️☺️
My doc said no bed rest wanted me up the day of surgery on a walker. I had an anterior rt hip replacement. was not painful but have felt a bit weak and wear out easily am 81 but was in good shape before surgery. These exercises have really helped I do then 2Xa day 10 reps each.
